That's pretty much par for the course I'm afraid. You might want to ask a midwife but in the mean time try either a hot water bottle or a cold compress and see which works, sometimes heat soothes or cold calms it down if you see what I mean. It doesn't usually last too long. It'll be morning sickness next.

Congratulations by the way!

Not sure there's much you can do about it - sorry I know that's not what you want to hear! If it's any consolation mine gradually started to feel much better after about 14 weeks and are just a bit tender now (31 weeks) like they would be before my period. There is light at the end of the tunnel!!

starshaker, do you find cold makes your nipples worse/triggers painful episodes?

I am 9 weeks pregnant, and have had v v painful nipples from the word go. When nicely warm, they are just a bit sensitive, but getting cold, even for a brief moment, gives me about half an hour or more of burning soreness.

I found this info about 'nipple vasospasm' - www.thewomens.org.au/nipplevasospasm -which describes what I experience very accurately, even down to the weird 'traffic light' nipple colour changes.

I jam a hot water bottle down me jumper when I can - great at home, less practical at work or out and about, especially if you haven't gone public about your pregnancy.

My magic trick has been heat pads - the stick on ones you can get for period pain and back pain etc - stuck to the inside of my top over my boobs, or onto a vest, so they're hidden (not directly over the nipples, I think that's asking for trouble - just a bit higher). The heat pads aren't completely invisible, but a big well draped scarf or tank top covers the dodgy area, as well as being an extra layer of bosom heating. They've been a huge help.

(I ended up ordering a lot of Curaheat pads from an online chemist to save money. They aren't that cheap, unfortunately, but I'm so grateful for the pain relief. Cos they really are painful when they kick off!)

Oh I remember this vividly. The cold, oh the cold. I remember wandering around in public when it snowed with my hands inside my coat massaging my bullet like and very sore nipples.

Ouch.

It gets better a few weeks before the birth, in time for breastfeeding every 18hrs out of 24. At least.

Seriously, keep them warm, it helps.
