Congrats! I've not got my 20week scan till next week but already been told twice she's a girl But sonographer told me they dont just say its a girl if they cant see boy bits, they do look for specific girl bits too - 3 white lines like a sandwich, which I think are the labia and vagina. Can you see them on your scan pix?

LastOfTheMulledWine · 22/12/2009 12:05

Now, I'm going to introduce you to a strange concept. It's going to sound revolutionary to you. Prepare yourself. Are you ready?

You don't have to dress girls in pink.

Nor boys in blue.

Shocking isn't it?

I would believe what she said and no more ie she couldn't see boy parts. Doesn't mean they aren't there but she couldn't see them.

With dd, at 23 weeks her legs were wide open and there was no doubt. That's the only circumstances in which I would accept it's pretty clear.

Congrats on your scan showing a healthy DD, it's so lovely seeing and feeling them wriggle at the same time

I think they're a bit reluctant to talk definately about the sex of the baby just in case they turn out to be wrong. But from what I remember of the leaflet I got given, they're 95% accurate.

We've got DD2 pink clothes, but not too many, not just because 'she' might turn out to be a 'he' but because it's impossible to tell how big they're going to be, so we're waiting for her to show up to get all the clothes she'll need.

This is going to be a bit of a shock for you lastofthemulled, but some people like dressing their girls in pink and their boys in blue

LastOfTheMulledWine · 22/12/2009 12:28

Oh I know that, I see the spectacular collective lack of imagination adorning newborn babies everywhere I go...

It was a joke.

I was merely pointing out that you can go out and buy clothes now without them having to be gender specific. In fact for a newborn, it's just multipacks of babygros and vests. They grow out of them quickly and you spend so much time changing them due to the drool/vomit/poo that anything beyond generic poppered clothing is foolhardy. Especially considering the number of gender specific gifts you get after the birth.

But I shall take my jolly Christmas joking elsewhere...

My friend at work is due in feb she had her 20 week scan and they said a girl, 2 days ago she had a 4d scan and its a boy !!!!

TisTheSeasonToBeHully · 22/12/2009 12:38

Well it can only be one of three!!!!

AgentZigzagDoingAYuleLog · 22/12/2009 13:22

Patronising/joking...it was hard to tell.

lostinwales · 22/12/2009 13:25

DD is about to turn three and he's absolutely gorgeous! (And I studied sonography as part of my degree

LastOfTheMulledWine · 22/12/2009 13:26

See I thought the deliberate hyperbole was indicative of wit but such subtleties are wasted on the masses.

Now THAT was patronising.

Jayfer · 22/12/2009 15:11

At our 20wk scan we could tell it was a boy without being told! No hesitation. But it was gonna be wearing boy clothes for the first year anyway as my sis has had 2 boys and gave us 3 bin bags full of clothes! Waste not, want not!
