I'm very early in my second pregnancy (about 8 weeks). Some people may have seen my thread a week or so ago about bleeding and pain - it hasn't been an easy ride so far and we are in a horrible waiting period to see if the baby will survive the next few weeks as I have a sub-chorionic bleed.
Maybe because I'm stressed and not sleeping very well, my "morning" sickness (insert hollow laughter) has been really quite bad - wretching a lot - and unexpectedly, which doesn't go down so well at parties/in meetings - actually throwing up about twice a day.
It is mostly in the morning that I feel worst, I think because of the lack of food overnight. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips about what snacks to eat to keep on top of it? I'm eating masses of dry bread at the mo, but do other people have any cunning handbag foods that they can't live without to combat the nausea? I have a fairly non-sweet tooth so biscuits etc are a bit bleugh when am feeling sicky anyway ...

I was going to suggest sucking on boiled sweets until I read down to the bit where you say you don't have a sweet tooth! I found the trick with the nausea was not to let myself get hungry, as that seemed to make it a million times worse.......I had to make sure I ate something every couple of hours. If you don't like sweet biscuits, what about oatcakes or crackers? They're easy to put in your handbag. I also found drinking ginger tea helped (Twinings lemon and ginger tea) a bit, as did wearing travel sickness bands.

Basically you just need to eat whatever you think you can stomach and try to stay hydrated. trust me - it will pass soon even though it doesn't feel like it at the minute X

I just ate as much as I physically could, particularly at dinner time, and tried to have a snack (whatever I could stomach) immediately before bed. It's miserable though. I did find the travel sickness wristbands really helpful - they didn't get rid of the sicky feeling entirely, but they definitely helped a lot. I got mine from Boots for about £7.

not a handbag food, but rather disgustingly i found the one thing that i could eat without being/feeling sick was macdonalds. i was never a fan of it before and haven't eaten it since but it kept me going for about 2 months when pregnant

Vitamin b6 is a wonderful thing. You can buy it in boots, take 3 a day (30 mg) and it will help the nausea. It won't stop you actually being sick but will help the bleurgh feelings in between. I only discovered it for pg #3 and it made such a huge difference!

I found the best thing for me was a bowl of cornflakes with ice ice cold milk. Only one bowl. Because it was the only thing that went down well i would often try for a second and totally barf it up seconds later. Blandness was the key for me. I didn't want anything sweet either. apart from ice pops. toast and crumpets were good too later on when i could keep more than a couple of spoonfuls down. and crisps.

pregnancy sickness is horrendous. Hope it goes soon x best tip is to stay horizontal and do as little as possible. not easy when this is not your first though i know...

I found that the nausea was much worse than the being sick for me, being sick provided a few hours of no nausea. Strange. Anyhows I ate jacobs crackers and kept them by my bed, ginger tea, and at one point i found it so hard to cope I went to a homeopath and received a remedy from them, i think mine was called nux vom, but they analyse your feelings/sensations i.e is it better when lying down etc, and then give you a remedy. I did a lot of research to ensure that this was safe before embarking.
Porridge some days I could keep down and this would help, but like the other girls say it seems a whole lot worse if you don't keep eating. I also went through a phase of being only able to drink sparkling mineral water or lucozade. I think it's a case of trying anything you can to see what you can tolerate, it is the oddest thing. Mine started at 8 weeks with nausea then got into the being sick phase at around 15 weeks, after 19 weeks I felt much more 'normal'. xxx

ooops meant to say that the homeopathic remedy took the edge off it for me most days. I also seemed to be trying to eat something every hour.
