I have now got to 12 +5 wks and I can't hold back the urges any longer I am about to have a Latte. I have been avoiding tea and coffee as i do drink a lot of soft drinks which have small amounts of caffiene in. I have not had an alcoholic drink since i found i was Pg and have no intentions pf having one (maybe one champagne at my wedding)

but I am dying for a coffee!!! I will just have the one! Anybody else got any naughty cravings anyone like me and buy sushi only to pick the raw fish off and eat cold rice and soy sauce.

I am such a bad person

I've also eaten prawns - that I cooked myself, frankfurters - cooked at home and nuts. I've had a bottle of beer or glass of wine occassionally as well.

Blimey now I feel guilty! I allow myself a can of diet coke a day, in early pregnancy opted for caffiene free tea, which tastes the same and allowed myself a small glass of wine most evenings! I have stayed away from soft cheese etc. But the guidelines I have read say that caffiene is bad for you in excess as in 6 + cups of strong coffee and alcohol is a bit of a grey area. My NHS notes say a unit a day is fine as well as my pregnancy book (I think its the Queen Charlotte Hosp)giving the reason that iklboo gave that it relaxes you and babe, but other books say 1-2 units once or twice a week?? I have to say it has worried me, but have always had a drink after food never more than one and drank gallons of water afterwards! Am I a terrible mother?

LOL....more naughty mums to be!...hello!

I too have eaten prawns(can't help it they're my favourite food), I drink a cappucino every morning when I get to work, have eaten the odd bit of brie and feta here and there, and have a glass of wine or 2 once or twice a week.

At the end of the day-what did pg women eat before they came up with all the "you can't eat this", "you can't eat that"?

And like someone said re: raw fish and japanese women. I am sure in each part of the world women eat or drink things that would make our hair stand on end and have healthy babies. I am a big believer in moderation trying not to get bogged down with 'old wives tales',avoiding the things that are obviously gonna cause a direct risk, although I have had the odd moment where I have freaked out and my poor DH has had to give me a talking too! Anyway, time will tell when I have this little chap and although I can 'talk the talk' my biggest anxiety is that he will be ok and that I have done nothing to harm him.

Scruff - you are absolutely right. In many parts of the world tha advice is so difernt from in the UK.

On the Continent we are not told that we should drink no alchohol, but to limit it to wine and " no more than a few glasses a week", that we can eat brie etc (as long as its made with pasteurised milk which all are by EU law nowadays) and that we can eat shushi too. I was told the only things I really shouldn't eat are raw meat due to toxyplasmoisis risk and shellfish - not sure about why on that one though.

Am still drinking coffee - only a vastly reduced intake!

From what I understand from the Food Standards Agency website, feta is fine as long as it' made in this country. Raw fish is also fine as long as it's been frozen for x minutes at some ridiculously low temperature, to kill the parasites. Not sure how you guarantee this has been done at your favourite Japanese restaurant without causing offence though...

Naughtiness hasn't really been on the agenda for me for most of this pregnancy: I don't drink much coffee anyway and tea started making me sick - and usually I'm a builder's brew kind of a gal. A thimble of wine made me ill. In fact, most things made me nauseous: I couldn't stand even the smell of fish and meat and when I tried blue cheese cooked, I had to throw it away. My poor husband started to lose weight, as we were on vegetables and pulses for months. Now I'm 32 weeks, I'm pretty much fancying everything normally. Bought some pate at the weekend. And I really can't wait to have some scrumpy () - not even my tipple of choice, usually. The midwife suggested that I must be fancying something in it and I could try pressed apple juice. But that's just no fun...

I was talking to a friend in NZ the other day, and mentioned that I've been having the odd small glass of wine (as in 1 glass every 2 weeks or so), which I can't generally finish as it gives me heartburn. She was horrified, and then said 'well, everyone has to make choices that are right for them, but I'm sure that my friend X's child is a bit slow because she drank the odd glass of wine when she was pregnant'. Got off the phone and feld so horribly guilty and worried that I might have done something to the baby - then got angry and thought, well it's all very well to be a saint while you're pregnant, but some of the food she feeds her kids now, I wouldn't dream of giving to mine - again, it's choices I guess .

Haven't had much coffee (loved it before I got pg, but the smell makes me feel ill!), and have about 2 - 3 cups of tea a day (down from about 7 cups pre pg!!). Really missing peanut butter - DH has allergies, so have had to give up peanuts(although have to confess to the occassional slip up ).

guys, i've seen women drink a bottle of wine while preggers, and others that knock back 2l bottles of coke while choofing a pack plus of cigs. my sister had the worst sushi cravings while preggers, and could be seen scoffing platters... anyway, all their kids came out heaps bigger and more robust than mine did on the herbal tea and med. diet. speaking of which, i'm craving a bit of raw salmon. now where do i get that 10.30 at night?

champs · 26/07/2005 19:20

is now the time to own up to my vanilla diet coke and seaweed peanuts craving??!!
