Round Ligament Pain - Second Trimester

Since about 9am I've had a band of muscular aches across my lower tummy. I've had aches before which have lasted a few hours too but this seems to be lasting longer. Must add though that during this time I have had breaks from it and I did lift a parcel this morning. I went to my GP this morning for a different issue but I did mention it and she didn't bat an eyelid. She listened to baby and all is fine. Even commented on my textbook bump which made me walk out with a little spring in my step! Anyway, should I be concerned about still feeling achey? It's uncomfortable but hasn't made me reach for the paracetamol.
Thanks 18+3 by the way

I'm 18+6 and getting them too, I wouldn't worry unless they're very sharp, prolonged or period pain-y.

first1 · 17/12/2009 17:27

I'm sure it feels muscular. Ridiculous as it sounds I can't really remember the difference - if any - between this and period pain. But yes it's been several hours now

Period pain pain feels grumbly and painful and not unlike the beginnings of a bout of the runs (nice)

If it feels muscular you have nothing to worry about, it's just everything stretching. I can feel the bump's presence when I walk now, it pulls slightly. It's exactly the right tine for this to start happening.

As I said though, if the pain is sharp or severe etc etc ask your doctor or midwife for advice. It does sound like perfectly normal round ligament pain though, to me.

Thank you James, merry crimbo

I have had a bit of this, usually after exercise. Nothing for it but to rest up really, just everything getting heavy and your poor old muscles having to hold it up.

I do find if I get a sharp pain while walking that holding my abs tight and adjusting my posture can help, I guess they take some of the load.

Hello,
I know exactly how you feel both as a first timer and as a full time sufferer of round ligament pain. The first time I experienced it I was straight down the GP like that neurotic pregnant character we all swear we'll never become!

Due to three huge fibroids (Tom, Dick and Harry) I was measuring 20 weeks at 8 weeks. I am now also 18 +6 and absolutely (get wedged between car mirrors in car parks) massive! My midwife said exactly the same as James.

She also advised paracetamol if the pain was bad. At first I refused through some sort of mother nature ideal but I do use them now. In fact the midwife suggested I took them before the pain got too bad and it does really help.

The pains are just that but with them comes the bump and that is just brilliant. I love it - even getting used to the silly waddle it leaves you with.

Best wishes
XC

I had this and it felt a bit like a stitch but much lower. I seem to get it when I start out on walks but not when I do any other type of exercise. I just slow down a bit and then it goes off. I'm 24 weeks now and it seems to be easing off. Hope that yours eases off soon!

I still have it Very localised ache at bottom of my tum. Been tested for a UTI but dont think its that. Can ligament stretching ache for this long? I slept alright last night and it eased off over lunchtime but is back now

What about a hot bath then feet up with a stack of pillows? Hope it eases soon. XC

I've been getting a stitch-like pain when I walk quickly or uphill, more on my right than left, and am pretty sure it must be round ligament pain. I'm 29 weeks. Irriating as I like walking and it slows me down. Holding my bump helps and it always stops if I do. I've been having a trawl online and in my limited library and the following suggestions seem to come up:
Rest
Drink plenty of water
Practice core muscle exercises and stretches

For treating the pain it's paracetamol, warm compress, rest.

Any other ideas for making it go away much appreciated!

Ooh this sounds just like what I've got this evening - achy stitchy periody pain in my lower abdomen. It's not sharp or anything but somehow slightly worrying. I'm only 13 weeks. Just had a warm bath but it's still there.

Dammit it's back!! I'm 26+1 now and today have had the familiar feeling of a dull ache across my lower tummy. Baby's moving around fine and happened to have FHB checked this morning which was 155bpm and MW seemed perfectly happy with it. But owwwww! Just having a moan really! Hope noone else is suffering with it Roll on 3rd tri...

So glad to see this thread....I'm 27+4 and had the most awful stitch-like pain this afternoon whilst out walking. It was down the left side of my bump and it slowed me right down (not that I was walking at a fast pace anyway). Managed to sit down for a bit and it eased up so I'm taking it easy this evening. I have a scan and consultant appt tomorrow so I'll mention it to him, but reading this thread has given me comfort that its nothing to worry about.

HoopsIsGettingMassive · 09/02/2010 18:51

I suffered with this from 20 weeks onwards, got so worried I called my midwife, turned out to be round ligament pain, felt just like stitch and would ages, couldn't walk very far with it, but am now 32 weeks and it appears to have gone completely.......In the end I just though of it as baby growing and everything needs to stretch to accomadate mini-hoops

Pinky1975 · 13/07/2010 08:15

I am sufferring terribly from round ligament pain. I have had a few days of terrible pain: not been able to stand upright , walk, sleep etc... Had 20 week scan yesterday and they gave me a right going over to check nothing more serious; but does not make pain any easier. Taken paracetomol but gives me terrible indigestion so back to the Gaviscon. Grrr....As everyone says...just want to get fatter now so it has all stretched!

Valbonne09 · 21/07/2010 10:18

I'd say that mine is more at the top of my bikini/pubic line rather than tummy area (although who can tell where that begins and ends these days!). Is this still likely round ligament pain. Feels very sharp and stitch like and happens mostly when I am walking (brisk walker..or used to be) or rolling over in bed. Does this sound like round ligament pain too? Orignally thought it must be a UTI but I get it more on my right side than left so surely that wouldn't make sense?

AliJaneT · 16/01/2012 13:26

Hi everyone, I've has this the whole way through and its like Valbonne09 describes right across the bikini line but accompanied by a deep, sharp discomort in my right butt cheek which must be the scatic nerve. It makes going from sitting to standing, walking and turning in bed pretty miserable experiences. I do yoga and thought this was helping but have read up on the internet and am worried this is making it worse!

I was thinking of going for a Shiatsu treatment. Has anyone tried this. Apparently it really helps. Also thinking of going to see a physio/osteopath. Going to ask the midwife on Weds so will report any useful advice.
