I went to the Baby Show in Earls court a few months ago. There's another one coming up at Excel.

They have soooo much stuff on offer there. I would say to bring your mum or a friend with kids so you know what to buy and what not to buy, but overall the baby show has EVERYTHING under one roof.

Muslin squares are a must! So handy after a feed as save your shoulder/clothes from the mess!
Make sure you pack plenty of nappies and baby vests/grows in your labour bag as you never know how long you may be there. I also found that newborn wasnt big enough so take a couple of 0-3 months in case.
If you can, after having given birth grab as many of the pads they have in hospital for the bleeding you will have after. I had stitches after my DD and nothing was as comfortable as the pads they use in hospital!

You need to buy/to think about

Where is the baby going to sleep?
moses basket/ crib/ cot/cotbed/ your bed?

How are you going to carry them about?
Sling/ pram

How are you going to feed them?
Breast / bottle (6 bottels + steriliser)

Clothes
6 vests
6 babygrows
snowsuit
3 jumpers/cardigans
2 hats
muslins

blankets / sheets for lo's bed if they need it

Car seat

sure there's more but with each child I've had I needed less and less stuff. You need far less than you think you do!

Good luck

Also i don't see the point in wasting money on a seperate moses basket/baby car seat/pram. Mamas and papas do an excellent travel system that i'll be getting when my second one comes along. Its the 'Switch' design, basically the carrycot is a car seat (flat lying so better for baby's spine)and an overnight bed. But best of all can be attached directly to the puschairs chassy straight from the car. Soooo handy. It is pricey, but works out a lot cheaper than buying all seperate pieces and is handier.

Something for them to wear. Just babygros/vests/cardigans and something for if you're outside like a pram/snowsuit

Somewhere for them to sleep

A way of transporting them (sling/pram)

Carseat

Nappies

Muslins

If planning to formula feed you will obviously need the requisite stuff for that

Everything else is unnecessary but up to you if you want to splash out.

YOU will need maternity pads, big knickers, breast pads and nipple cream (best to have in advance if bfing, lansinoh is good), chocolate, dvds, front opening pjs

I would suggest a separate sleeping place than pram/pushchair as some babies are more sickly than others. Mine dribbles like you wouldn't believe and quite often soaks the matress of his crib. Also if you have more you will use the baby's bed again so making it more cost effective. Our crib has done 2 of my ds's and also a friends and it's going off to do another friends dc when lo arrives.

Also if the pram were to get wet say when you were out and caught short in the rain you would want lo to sleep somewhere else whilst it dried off.

The most important thing you'll need though is thick skin to take all the different opinons that will come your way for every subject to do with babies and children!!!

Not wishing to hijack this thread - but this has really helped me too! I'm a first time mum, and whilst other 2 sisters have 5 kids between them, it's useful to get others viewpoints

Muppetgirl that hits it right on the head!
