Conceiving post c-section

I keep reading that you should leave it at least a year after a c-section before conceiving again...

My DD is now nearly 6 months and I want to start trying for number 2 in the new year (she's an easy baby - I DO know it will be hard work with two, though).

I had an elective c-section due to plaenta praevia. The placenta bit wasn't a barrel of laughs, but it wasn't an emergency section, healed well, no complications other than a blood transfusion. Discharged after 48 hours and have had no problems since. Periods are back (am no longer BF), and regular, so I assume all is back to normal there too.

Is there really a good reason to wait the full year? I mean medically, not because "two under two" is a nighmare!!

Would welcome all your comments and experiences. Thanks, ladies.

My GP said 6 months was ok, but if I did accidentally get pregnant sooner then it wasn't the end of the world. But I had healed well and was in good health.

In the end I had 14 months between the em cs and getting pg with DD. No complications during pregnancy and planned cs with DD.

I had DS by elective Csection and got pregnant again when he was 6 months old. Am now 23 weeks and all OK so far - will be having another section for this one by choice (not because told to medically).
