Help - maternity clothes sizing

I've just ordered three pairs of trousers from Mamas and Papas maternity wear range. I'm usually a size 12 so that was the size I ordered and I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant, I have a smallish but definite bump.

Thing is whilst the jeans I ordered fit perfectly the other two pairs of trousers are huge. They fall straight off my hips. I realise I am going to get bigger between now and the due date (at least I hope so), but I'm never going to fit into these. Problem is I quite like them, and in ordinary circumstances would just exchange them, but they are so vast I can't work out whether they have just been mis-labelled and should really be size 18-20, or whether they are correctly labelled and despite not being remotely tiny I am in fact a size zero in maternity clothes.

So does anyone else have experience of Mamas and Papas maternity clothes being ginormous? Or is this likely to be a defect in the pairs I ordered?

I didn't but any maternity clothes from M&P but I bought a selection from quite a few shops. I alawys bought my normal size, so it sounds to me like there's something strange about those particular trousers (especially as you said the jeans fitted fine)

I have had this problem with most of the maternity clothes I have bought. I am normally a 14/16 (closer to 16 unfortunately) I bought a 16 maternity jeans and by the time I walked across the sittingroom they were around my ankles the same with the 14 so have now ordered a 12 and they stay up, just!

Send them back. I had to send loads of stuff back - cost me a fortune in postage!

However whilst jeans in my usual size fitted for the first 6 months, I think your pelvis expands and eventually they became uncomfortable despite putting on way less than 2 stone by that stage. So I wouldn't bank on what fits you now necessarily lasting all the way through.

Cheers m'dears. I will send them back and ask for a refund, and not try and buy any more until I've had a chance to try some on in a shop. Thinking about it, I have a load of maternity tops lent by a friend which are size 10, and which fit fine, so maybe maternity clothes do come up rather large on me (at least for now!).

Not just you Veronica! I am normally a size 10 (so by no means tiny), and couldn't get in my normal jeans after about 13 weeks, but I am finding maternity clothes (trousers in particular) swimmingly massive! Am ordering size 8 and they're still too big.

Dorothy Perkins have a reasonable range and they do free returns as well, so you might want to try that.

I have real trouble with maternity trousers........they never bloody stay up! I buy my usual size, which I need because the smaller size are too tight on my thighs, but have yet to find a pair of jeans that I don't have to hold up as I'm walking along despite being 29 weeks and having a sizeable bump. The only trousers I don't have to keep hoiking up are my new look tracksuit bottoms and a pair of combats from mothercare (probably cos they both have elastic round the waist!)

Hi, I normally get my usual size in maternity wear. but for my last 3 pregnancies I havn't had any maternity wear except for a pair of jeans. I usually just get normal clothes in bigger sizes, especially as leggings are on trend at the moment. h and m is really god for affordable seperates that you can mix and match and you get more choice.
