Amusing story - telling family we are pregnant

Hi,

Really wanted to share what happened when we told DH parents and his bro and sis and their parents that we are pregnant during a meal out at the weekend.

We were really excited about doing it as family knew we have been trying for couple of years and we had a little script worked out to get it into the conversation.

After being out for a couple of hours I nudges DH and he started on script. He was only half way through when his sis husband butted in 'well funny you say that because we may have another little one to think about by then'!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone gasps and turns to look at them, DH bangs table and says 'well so will we' everyone gasps and turns to look at us.

Turns out my SIL and I are due one day a part! Everyone was pretty shell shocked for rest of the evening particulary the grand parents who were also over the moon.

Anyone else have funny story when they told family they were pregnant?

TulipsAndTinsel · 14/12/2009 11:32

dd told my mother about ds2

I had been dithering about trying to work it into the conversation when suddenly up struts dd, pats my tummy and announces 'Mommy has a baby in her tummy' not how i'd planned on doing it.

congratulation to you and your sil, how lovely for the two little ones to grow up together

I was only six weeks pregnant when we had a big family bash for my Dad's 60th. DH and I arrived last (we had the furthest to travel and had been held up) so everyone was sitting down for dinner already. We had decided not to tell anyone that weekend, as it was very early, plus my cousin had recently had quite a late miscarriage AND we didn't want to make the weekend about us rather than Dad. So we sat down, and Mum offered us the wine. I said "no thanks, might have one later" to which Mum gave me a hard stare, and then, as soon as she could, dragged me off to one side and said "are you? You are, aren't you?" Clearly my entire family think I'm an alcoholic as it was the refusal of a glass of wine the moment we arrived that gave it away. I didn't really mind that they found out that way, and it made the weekend an even bigger celebration, rather than making it awkward at all.

PS Congrats OP. My sis has a daughter 9 months older than my DTs, and they love spending time together! They'll be starting school at the same time too, which will be lovely.

Ah thats lovely congrats my sil has a boy 6months older then my ds1 and another boy 3months younger them my ds2 its lovely havin them all together

There are 6 weeks between DD and my DN. they are best of friend one minute and fight like cat and dog the next but they are a very coniving pair! My sis was in tears telling me as DP and I had been trying for a while and DN was a surprise. But i was thrilled and maybe it was all the hormones but 6 weeks later it was my turn for BFP.

Then this time we told MIL and got the weirdest reaction, in fact it was barely a reaction at all. Then I left for work, SIL came over and DP told her our news and was talking away and the next thing SIL burst out in tears as she was pregnant too!! turns out there are 3 days apart! so it will be nice that DD2 will have someone as close to her as DD1 has with DN.

But boy, what a busy year next year will be!

Congratulations!

congratulations Op, (and everyone else)

We seem to have a bit of a family tradition for having babies close together! My sister and I have been pregnant at the same time twice with just two weeks apart, then 6 weeks apart! And my both my sisters in law were also pregnant at the same time with our last so we have four cousins all with birthdays within weeks of each other! Me and my sister in law are expecting again and we keep waiting to hear news that the other two have joined the club! Congrats and welcome to the "not so exclusive pregnancy club", I always said I can't do anything on my own!

negrilbaby · 14/12/2009 16:22

We are still debating whether to announce the good news at our wedding next week. I'll be 11 weeks and am looking decidedly rounded in my dress. The lack of champagne drinking may also be a big hint.
Think DH may be working it into his speech!

MamaLazarou · 14/12/2009 16:43

Lovely, congratulations, OP.

My niece told me that my sister was expecting her 2nd. DN was 4 at the time. She said, 'My mummy's growing a baby in her tummy, and when it comes out, and grows a bit, and is the same big as me... we'll be twins!'

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 14/12/2009 16:49

Congratulations OP and everyone else.
When I was having both dc's 2 of the same friends were regnant at the same time we gave birth both times all within the space of a few weeks of each other.

This time round a different friend, in fact my oldes childhood friend is due a few weeks before me.

My mum yesterday though has to go down as the most underwhelmed Granny to be ever.
Told her and she said "oh yeah though you were when I seen you last week."
She is actually very excited just needs to tell her face that

wibblela · 14/12/2009 16:56

This is such a nice thread

When I told my Mum over the phone as we live so far apart, she chatted for a few mins, and then said "have to go, going to get emotional" When I told my Sis (she's a funny woman ) over the phone as well, she was about 10 weeks pg at the time, she said, "will my sisters not allow me to be pregnant on my own..." When she was pregnant with DC1 my other sister was pregnant with DC4! Fairly sure that my parents are overjoyed with both impending grandchildren 6 and 7

Flower3554 · 14/12/2009 17:05

My mum rang me to gush over my brother and his wifes first pregnancy, after half an hour of how wonderful this baby was bound to be as SIL "will be a fantastic mother" I interrupted her to say "actually I'm pregnant too, hope you're as pleased for us"

A small silence followed by "yes but this will be your third, its not as exciting for you"
