Car seats on prams question

I am thinking of buying a car seat that will fit on my pram chassis but am confused about the 2 hours car seat rule. My (newbie) understanding is that babies shouldn't be in car seats for more than two hours (?). So if you were to take your baby out and use the car seat on the pram does that mean they can't be in it for more than two hours from the start of the journey. After the two hours do they have to lie flat for a bit? and how long before you could put them back in again? Have just realised how neurotic this question is but can't work out if its worthwhile having one that attaches or not! Thanks

Hi this is the question i have posed, when i had other children folding buggy wasnt a problem didnt drive, but now at 33 wks im getting a bit fed up of looking, i will prefer a "stokke"
but with having 4 children and next one on way i think its an expense not needed right now!
so i want a carrycot pushchair that folds and fits in my 7 seater volvo, i will get a fixed carseat and that will do my baby, the only choice now is which one still deciding, ahhhhhh!

one of the concerns for newborns in car seats for long periods of time is actually to do with their hip joint development. the car seat does its job of keeping LO secure very well when you are in the car, but it seriously restricts how much they can move their limbs. Babies needs to move their limbs in order for the ball and socket joints (esp at the hip) to develop properly. they cannot do this in a car seat which is where the 2 hour rule comes in (blood flow to the joint restricted).

having said that i plan to use the car seat on a pushchair base when DC2 is born as I have to park and have a 5 min walk to drop DD at school and disturbing the baby for a 5 min walk just to get back in the car and go home again seems crazy (esp as it was always soooooo difficult to get DD to sleep!)

however will be getting a pushchair with carry cot for other walks and shopping etc

butterscotch - I can't believe you have to bring 'chavs' into what was a reasonable thread about carseats.
Most people here are agreeing that short spells is okay but flat is best. On occasions like the school run, or picking up a prescription, calling into the Post Office or a short trip to the shops a car seat on wheels is the most convenient for many mums. I really can't see what it has to do with chavs.
I also have no idea what the lakeside but your post really riled me.
