Cats reaction to pregnant owners!

I'm now 22 weeks pegnant for the first time and my cat, Mary, is starting to act strangely.

She is even more clingly than usual, always wanting to be with me when I'm at home. Plus she has developed a fascination with my neck and breasts, she rests her paws on my breasts and rubs her face against my neck, she even tries to curl up for a snooze on my breasts but can't manage to stay there unless I cradle her in my arms.

Is this chnage in behaviour related to my pregnancy or just a coincidence?

How do cats respond to their pregnant owners in the later stages of pregnancy? espeically when the bump severly reduces the lap space available?
Also how will my cat respond when we bring the new born baby home?
Is she likely to jump into the baby's cot?

My cats became more protective and cuddly definitely when I was pregnant and the youngest one would sleep on my bump in the middle of the night (seemed to be the right shape for her!).

Now the baby has arrived the two cats, who previously just about tolerated each other, have really bonded. It is like they are united in adversity. They sleep together and play fight all the time. They are also very cuddling with me when I am feeding the baby and sit right next to me or try to sit on my lap!

Cats are fascinating creatures.

I heard that it was only female cats who can tell.
No change so far in my cat (male) but a bit worried about how he will react when we bring the baby home.

Sanitycat goes through 2 stages for a few weeks she gives me dirty looks as much to say your doing this to me again and ignores me then she gets overly loving and fussy. When shes in the second stage and im at the point in the pregnancy where you can feel baby move she plays a game of sticking her paw on whatever the baby sticks out.
I have been lucky with her after births as she has never tried to sleep in anything the baby sleeps in. She normally sleeps underneath or at the side andcomes to find me meowing when the baby cries and wont stop until i have sorted.baby out.

As my bump gets bigger when I'm sitting my cat can't really sit on the bump so sits on my chest instead (which is big enough) but that blocks any view for me other than her fur! I usually make her sit beside me for attention. When in bed she tends to curl up on the bump or beside it. She doesn't seem to react to baby kicking which is strange.

We have another cat but she doesn't give me much attention unless she wants something or DH is away.

Aww

My siamese cat acts like a baby anyway. When I vomit or retch she runs into the bathroom looking concerned.
She has been talking more and sleeping on my head more in recent months.
We bought some Feliway as she has recently started to over-groom which we thought could be her picking up on the pregnancy and being nervous. It appears to have worked as her fur is growing back.

My cat is obsessed with the bump, he is always massaging it and loves to lay on it for a sleep. It doesn't bother him in the slightest when he gets booted, or jiggled about. He follows me everywhere and sleeps outside my bedroom door, escorts me to the loo at night and makes sure I get back to bed.

Cats are funny wee creatures. He is used to children and babies as I'm a childminder. So hopefully when the baby comes he won't bother too much.

My cat went crazy for me when I was pregnant, she went from being quite aloof to really fussy and cuddly but only with me, not dp. Less endearingly, she started bringing me presents of the dead or almost dead kind most nights Hmm

She loved sleeping in the empty Moses basket or pram but once dd was born she kept away from her. Her mild disgust turned to outright loathing once dd became mobile. She has adapted by spending most of her time in high up places until after dd goes to bed. But I don't think we are entirely forgiven.

I would start to shut your cat out of your bedroom at nights before your due date so it gets used to sleeping somewhere else.

I have a dog story, if that's allowed? Probably about 35 weeks, friends round with their lovely Labrador cross, I'm reclining on the floor in the lounge - dog wanders over, puts its head right up against my bump, stays like that for a minute or two, and then wandered off. It felt like a little doggy blessing!! So I'm sure some animals can sense pregnancy.

Mine insisted on sitting on my tummy as soon as I wasn't moving and spent the rest of her time shouting at me until I sat so should could resume her egg hatching position!

I have two kittens aged 6 months and 8 months. I'm 22 weeks now and one of them had a stage of a few weeks a while ago where he completely avoided me. He was laid on my tummy about a week ago though and got kicked. The look on his face was priceless!

My cat took to snuggling up against my bump in the last trimester and was uncharacteristically affectionate towards me. He was almost protective !

When I had my baby he would come up and prod my belly as if he knew it was different. He wouldn't go anywhere near my new baby - or me if I was sitting with my baby. A week after I came out of hospital he weed all over me (something he has never done before).

Baby is now 8 weeks old and my cat ignores him completely. However if the baby is crying he will constantly miaow at me until baby is settled !
