Ok so we have all heard of the 'norms', sickness, cravings, fatigue etc etc etc

Have you had any unusual pg symptoms

I can start -

When i was about 8 weeks I had huge purple blotches over my face and neck.... how some people did not pick up I was pg I have no idea.....

Anyone else?

Around the 2 month mark I get a raging thirst.

(TMI) I also had the peculiar sensation that I had been wearing a tampon for too long during the 1st trimester - kept checking all the time.

BornToFolk · 08/12/2009 14:38

Eczema on my eyelids.

Also really dry nostrils. So dry it hurt to breathe. I had to coat them in Vaseline at night!

heth1980 · 08/12/2009 15:09

really thick hair.....don't lose any at all when brushing it.

Really strong, long fingernails which just don't break.

My leg hair doesn't seem to grow any more! I haven't shaved for about 6 weeks...they're a bit prickly but nothing visible!

comeonbishbosh · 08/12/2009 16:05

Nose bleeds for me too, probably on an average two a week since before I even knew I was pregnant. And I'm now 32 weeks... so that's a lot of nose bleeds!

MeltedTreeChocolates · 08/12/2009 16:11

Gosh we are an odd bunch aren't we??!!

Feeling really really hot! Normally I have cold hands and feet.

Being able to smell what my neighbours two doors down were cooking...

chegirlwithbellson · 08/12/2009 16:18

Not being able to park my car. Only happens when pg. Otherwise I can park in a teeny space (urban gal!)

Deafness. I go horribly and annoyingly deaf in one ear. It comes and goes and tends to happen more when stressed. I got so stressed by DS's school last week I went deaf in both ears!

I got the weirdest rash with DS1. It only covered my belly and looked like tiny target marks.

Cold sweats. These happen in v.early pg. Before I take a test. Really distressing. They last about 5 weeks. They only happen at night. Vile - I am so looking forward to the menopause

The smell thing is awful too. Urggh. In fact it has not gone back to normal since DS3

heth Same here! Loads of hair on head, none on legs - its bloody great.

AgentZigzagDoingAYuleLog · 08/12/2009 17:21

Oh yeah, and I do just one hiccup every time I have a swig of a cold fizzy drink, it's bizarre.

hoops997 · 08/12/2009 17:39

another one here with no leg hair, haven't shaved in nearly 10 weeks woo hoo

I have weird little red spot things all over my belly, look like little blood spots

NellyNoKnicks · 08/12/2009 18:16

Just remembered another lovely one..... itchy, peeling nipples

Remember complaining to the midwife that they were driving me mad to the point I wanted to rip them off and stamp on them... realised at this point I'd said too much

MeltedTreeChocolates · 08/12/2009 19:47

Nelly are you serious?

My nipples (well its only one of them really) keep itching and peeling but also cracking too. Did that happen to you?

I am not pregnant btw (as far as I know )

I have a weird one. I'm 18 weeks pg, most of which time has been spent glugging cold water or nibbling very buttery toast to quell the nausea, but just as I get over that, I now find I retch every time I bend down e.g to pick up a toy. And I gag at the mere thought of retching. And the toothbrushing which seemed to set me off is actually also all about the bending down! As this is getting worse I'm nervous to say the least!

chegirlwithbellson · 08/12/2009 20:30

fusspot sounds like heartburn to me.

It tends to get worse the more pgs you have. I had a real shock when pg with DC2. I bent over (probably to pick up a toy!) when I was around 18 weeks and felt like I was going to throw up.

On DC5 now and kinda expect it. Not too bad so far but not counting my chickens. It was horrible with DS3 but he spent the whole pg really high up.

Wigglesworth · 08/12/2009 20:34

I gagged when I brushed my teeth, my leg hair stopped growing, a strong dislike for anything tomato based eg. spag bol, chilli con carne etc. Huge craving for ready salted walkers crisps, a loss of appetite in the evenings up to about 16 weeks. In the last trimester I could feel DS scratching away at my fanjo (ouch).

fusspot66 · 08/12/2009 20:38

Oh, something to look forward to then! I have no pain, and I can have quite an acid stomach Last year I had burning for a week from 2 ibuprofen taken with breakfast! Never had heartburn with first, and she had lots of lovely curly hair!!!!! It happens hungry or full up. Picking toys up repeatedly can be quite sickening. Funnily enough my bump is quite high. I was blaming the buttery toast and cheese I'd munched endlessly almost from the moment of conception.

fusspot66 · 08/12/2009 20:40

And mayonnaise!

chegirlwithbellson · 08/12/2009 21:47

Oh yeah mayonnaise I have to have it on everything. Yum.

I didnt get pain with heartburn until very late in pgs. Before that its all about the vomity feeling.

TMI alert......... With this and last pg I actually wake myself up at night by vomiting in my mouth ARRGGGGGHHHH.

So keep water and indigestion tablets by the bed, DONT eat after around 7pm and steer clear of anything too spicy or sweet in the evening.

Even going without chocolate is better than vomiting in my mouth .

mrswill · 08/12/2009 21:51

Those with fragile stomachs look away -

Having a 'spitcup', i really could not bear the taste of my own saliva - hyperemesis - and had to have my cup near at all times.

Disgusting - but you asked

mrswill · 08/12/2009 21:53

Oh yes, and cold nipples. Very weird, i used to use hotwater bottles on them!

MeltedTreeChocolates · 08/12/2009 21:56

Hahah, really mrswill? How odd!

fusspot66 · 08/12/2009 21:58

ooh I just hoovered up DD's cold chips on the way to the dishwasher. I hope it's the last I see of them!

5inthesleighbed · 08/12/2009 21:58

During my third pg, I couldn't use long words and forgot a lot of language. I just couldn't speak properly.

When pg with ds1 I had to have an orange with me at all times, I carried one around in my handbag and even took one to the hospital with me.

YanknChristmasCrackers · 08/12/2009 22:05

During the pregnancy it became increasingly hard for me to remember right from left. Now that I've given birth (3 months ago), it's deserted me altogether. This does not go down well when I'm giving directions!

MumNWLondon · 08/12/2009 22:07
  • nausea whenever I have to swallow pills - slightly problematic as i have to take thyroxine tabs every day...
  • with DS I had an optical migraine which was worrying couldn't see anything for 30 mins, apparently more likely in pregnancy
  • wind and bloating
  • loss of decision making skills even for simple decisions
fusspot66 · 08/12/2009 22:23

I'm off to bed to prop myself up on 6 pillows lest chegirl's problem afflicts me. I'm highly suggestible....
agree with the pill swallowing thing too Could be worse though. Could be hyperemesis with a spit cup. Musta been awful for you. Work in the morning. I work in the NHS. Luckily I'll be so busy i won't have time to retch.
Every cloud has a silver lining.
