Nausea/terror in 3rd trimester

I'm now 30+3 and since about 26/27 weeks I've had occasional, but increasing in number, sick feelings.

It doesn't feel like the kind of nausea I had in the 1st tri, more like extreme nervousness to the point of nausea.

I can't work out if I'm just extremely scared about the whole deal or if there is some kind of hormone rush going on that's giving me a weird feeling.

I feel fine and calm and excited about it all the rest of the time. Just these occasional waves.

I gave birth two years ago at 22 weeks and obviously my baby didn't make it. I can't work out if this is something to do with that or just normal for the stage I'm at.

Can anyone relate?

I'm 29 weeks and have also experienced this. For me it seems to happen more when I'm laid down at night and just like you I feel really terrified just for these moments.

I also feel sick, especially at night, and it feels just like you describe. The doctor discovered I have a urinary infection last week so don't know if that may not be helping?

So sorry I can't offer any advice but just wanted to say ...snap!

OP, have you got any other sympthoms, like headaches, dizziness or chest pain?

maybebaby23 · 08/12/2009 10:06

I have this too!! Extreme nervousness to the point of nausea is spot on, that is exactly what i feel like when it happens. It just washes over me and only lasts seconds. I suffer with anxiety though so i just thought it was something to do with that..

No idea what it is but you are not alone!

MrsMattie · 08/12/2009 10:08

Any other symptoms?

illuminasam · 08/12/2009 10:11

No other symptoms as far as I can tell. I have a mild headache today and I suffer from SPD, but that's about it. I take progesterone every day.

Certainly no dizziness or faintness.

I have some dizzyness now and again but this pregnancy is exactly the same as my last and i had dizzyness during the last 6 weeks then too. But not this wierd feeling! BP fine if a little low as normal.

No itchiness anywhere?

Nausea in the last trimester is pretty common, I think. Your digestive system is under strain as your baby gets bigger and squishes your internal organs.

I only ask about itchiness as that - usually on alsm of hands or soles of feet - + nausea can be a symptom of a (very rare) condition called obstetric cholestasis.

MrsMattie · 08/12/2009 10:22

sorry, palms of hands

illuminasam · 08/12/2009 12:22

I certainly have an itchy belly occasionally but nothing bad and certainly not the hands or feet.

I thought having itchy palms was a sign of being a werewolf or something?(!)

It's very odd. I should have been most anxious around 20 - 22 weeks as this is when I lost my last baby and while I was certainly apprehensive then, it was nothing like these feelings, which have kicked in when there is a much better chance the baby will actually make it.

maybebaby3 - do let me know if you find anything out as it sounds like we are experiencing exactly the same thing!

nausea and a feeling of dread ( malaise) can also be a sign of pre eclampsia.

maybebaby23 · 08/12/2009 13:36

I will post if i find anything out about it

I have been trying to describe the feeling for ages, can't believe you posted this and worded it spot on! Am going to tell DF when he gets home lol

maybebaby23 · 08/12/2009 13:38

Sorry to hear about your first baby OP

illuminasam · 08/12/2009 14:40

Good lord, I hope it's not pre-eclampsia!

I've had even blood pressure all through my pregnancy though and no protein in urine. All the same, thanks for the heads up BIdeN, I will certainly mention it to my midwife when I see her on Monday.

Thanks maybebaby - We are looking forward to no.2 now.
