hi, im 14 weeks pregnant monday and have been feeling awful for the last week with a sinus cold and chesty. woke up today with a bad migraine and just couldnt get through it without taking something.im normally on amitriptyline to stop me getting migraines but i cant take it now im pregnant.

i took a co dydramol tablet this morning. has anyone else taken these when pregnant? i know when i was around 18 weeks pregnant previously my doctor gave me co codamols to take for sciatic pain. ive heard that codeine is ok after 12 weeks but not near the end of pregnancy due to breathing/withdrawal problems with the baby.had anyone else taken codeine or co dydramols around this time?

any advice/experience is appreciated.

thank you

i know it should be okay and was only one tablet, im just panicking a bit now my head has cleared a bit.

I was prescribed Codrydramol at 8 weeks in my first pregnancy when I put my back out, and the pregnancy progressed without problems and DS1 is in perfect health.

however I did not continue to take it after about 14/15 weeks because my back was better, so I don't know about later in pregnancy

Yep - also for migraine, and for migraine while BF. Don't remember whether I took or not towards end of pregnancy, but your MW should be able to help you with this?

Does really strong coffee - say 2 or 3 double espressos help? That's always my first painkiller of choice, then move on to the drugs if I didn't get it quick enough. But either it works for you or you'll feel nauseous just at the thought!

thank you for your responses. i feel a bit relieved now.

i use a wheat bag/heat bag on my shoulders/neck for my migraine and also various other relaxation techniques but sometimes all that will shift it a bit is taking something with codeine in.

i will speak to my midwife when i see her next and just take one tablet of codeine if i really need to and make sure it isnt on a regular basis.

ive already had a scare as i fell doen the stairs last weekend and im rhesus negative so had to have an anti d injeciton and checked over and im just panicking i suppose that something is going to go wrong.

fingers crossed

thanks again
xx
