just wondering as i am a bit old fashioned and want to wait until 12 weeks but one of my dance mums has told me this morning that she is pregnant and she is only 5 weeks!

feels odd that she is only 1 week ahead of me but i dont plan on telling anyone for another 8 weeks, and i will admit that i am rather jealous of all the attention she will be getting for all those weeks before me

Told one friend and my sister at 5 weeks

Family at 13 weeks

Still don't mention it to people unless they ask at 22 weeks as am not showing yet in most outfits. I am a bit odd but I hate being the centre of attention and get really self conscious and don't like to discuss it, I think that it's just too boring for other people to hear about about unless people bring it up.

Congratulations! There's another very similar thread with pregnant ladies who haven't told anyone yet, so we're in the same boat.

I've just found out I'm 6 weeks pregnant (it's my first time). I'm stuck between telling people because I'm so excited, but then I don't want the whole world knowing in case something does go wrong and then I get all the sympathy, which I think I'll find hard to take. It's great to come on here and tell people anonymously! I'm planning on telling my parents at Christmas, when I'll be 8 weeks, and I'll probably tell a few close friends as well. Then I'll wait to tell work and the rest of the family at 12 weeks.

I guess just tell people when it feels right for you.

With DD, I told my parents, DH's mum and a few very close friends at 6wks (I didn't find out until then). I also had to tell work at 6wks as I was a microbiologist and worked with some very harmful pathogens (Listeria monocytogenes to name one). I didn't tell anyone else until I was 12wks, even though I had a scan at 9wks.

In this pregnancy I have told my parents, DH's mum and a couple of close friends again. I'm nearly 7wks now and won't tell anyone else until after the scan. If the worst happens, I'll be glad I've confided in a few good friends who can be there for me.

1st pregnancy - kept it quiet, but had to tell my boss at work when I started miscarrying badly at work.

2nd pregnancy - family straight away, work 6 weeks, because I was being SO sick I couldn't hide it and needed to them to know I was going to be in the toilet for 3 hours of every working day being sick.

3rd pregnancy - straight away again. No work this time to tell as I'm a SAHM.

I didn't worry about telling people early as we'd already lost one and if it happened again they could be supportive.

Told Dp's family first at around 16weeks. Then told the Doctor

Told my parents at about 18-19weeks.

Like someone else said, I don't like being the centre of attention, so didn't feel comfortable with telling loads of folk.

DP's Sis told everyone she knew the same day she found out (she was 4wks). I think its fine to tell a family member or two early on, if you can handle telling them if something goes wrong - but telling everyone you know at 4weeks I'm not so keen.

DS1 - Close family straight away. Rest of family and everyone else 12 weeks. (Very first preg ended in MC so held off)

DS2 - Same as.

DS3 - Close family 12 weeks, everyone else when couldn't hide it anymore - around 7 months.

DD - Mum straight away, close family 12 weeks, everyone else is guessing around now - 21 weeks.

I was so ill I told my boss at 9 weeks. Just as well, as that evening I started 6 weeks in hospital with hyperemisis. Told mum, sister and PIL at about 6 weeks. Everyone else at 12 weeks. Oh, as DH's best mate at about 10 weeks, because he missed his stag do to spend the weekend visiting me in hospital.

With no other pressures, I would have waited until 12 weeks or so.

lovechoc · 08/12/2009 12:24

with DS it was 5/6 weeks I told my folks and PILs.

this time I told family and v close friends (two of them) at 8 weeks.

If you have pretty bad symptoms then it's a bit daft to try and hide the pregnancy for weeks on end. People will still support you no matter the outcome good or bad.

I would love to keep quiet for 12 weeks but I'm feeling totally crap so it's impossible unless I barricade myself in the home and never visit relatives and friends until the first scan. Impossible.
