Hi all,

Hopefully I am completely jumping the gun here but I had a scan yesterday (I am 32 + 4) and my baby is breech (bum down). The consultant told me that theres plenty of time for baby to turn but he didnt say much to reassure me either.

He did however say that the baby is unusually embedded low down in my pelvis. Do you think this will effect him turning??

I would love to hear any experiences - Im really upset at thoughts of cs

Hi!

My baby was breech till week 33, then turned. I didn't feel anything, just some hiccups in my pelvis, so I thought "surely it has turned?". Mw confirmed a few days later.

I went onto Spinningbabies.com, and did the most obvious things they recommended:

  • no slouching (back straight to tilt your pelvis forward).
  • on all fours a couple of times a day (easy when playing with my DDs). If the baby is low down in your pelvis, I would try and go on all fours in the stairs, with your head lower than your bum, iyswim.

-when sitting at the computer, turn your chair around, that , again, will tilt your pelvis forward.

that's all I can think of at the moment.
If the scan didn't detect anything preventing the baby from turning (short cord, small pelvis, location of placenta..etc), then there is no reason it won't!

I've heard that accupuncture and moxibustion have a very good success rate too.

Hth

I don't have experience but at this early stage lots of things you can try at home, eg get down on all fours in such a way that you encourage him out of pelvic. Use torch or music to encourage him to move towards it! Do a google search on this? Or try accupuncture?

I can't tell you whether he will turn or not. Ds was breech from 33 weeks and I was told that it was unlikely he would turn as I had low levels of amniotic fluid. I had an elective csection which was a good experience. I was off painkillers within 24 hours, almost ran out of the hospital and I can honestly say that the recovery was a doddle, I never felt restricted and didn't even feel as if I had had an operation.

bigpreggybelly · 03/12/2009 11:19

Mine was head down, then my midwife told me earlier this week (at 34+2) that it was breech.

I'm carrying on with the yoga that I think may have made it turn in the first place, since that has lots of all 4's exercises. I'm also off for moxibustion this afternoon (should be interesting!). I'll let you know whether that has any effect or not, after my next scan in 10 days which will confirm where it is.

I think alot of the positions they suggest on spinning babies look extremely uncomfortable/impossible to do and are easier said than done. So I'll stick with the yoga, moxi thingy and crossing fingers.

There's always ECV I suppose if it hasn't turned by then.

Hiya
My baby was breech from about 33-34 weeks and i was told if he didn't turn by 36 weeks then i have 2 choices, go and try to get him turned to head down OR have a c-section. I had heard bad thngs about having your baby turned and it isn't guarenteed to even work. So i said i will be booked in for a c-section. I was so worried as i am so scared of needles and worried like crazy about having this needle in my back. But at 38+5 weeks i was having my c-section which was on 25th nov 09 and i am now home recovering, yes it does have after pain but pain killers help and make sure your partner is there to help through the night feeds as i have problems due to pain getting in and out of bed due to the pain. If you want to know anything more please ask and i will tell you everything that happend to me from start of going for c-section to holding baby, good luck x

maybebaby23 · 03/12/2009 15:22

My DD was breech all the way through. I had a c section at 39 weeks as i worried about letting then try to turn baby. The section was absolutely fine, you are still giving birth and in my experience the midwives were all so lovely, they really helped to make it calm and special for us. As long as you take painkillers and take it easy for the first few weeks you will be fine! The only problem i found was not being able to do much due to the pain but then i wasn't taking good regular painkillers! Im booked in again on 28th dec with DD2 and plan to keep up the painkillers, all should be well then

Good luck and try not to worry too much if you have to have a section.

So I have just come back from having moxibustion done by an accupuncturist.

Totally weird.

No needles, just had two burning and smoking cigar shaped herbal sticks (smell like joints) held near (but not in contact with) each of my little toes (so that they felt warm) for 15 mins. Was given the rest of the sticks to take home and told to get partner to do it for 15 mins each day. The sticks stink the place out and produce quite a lot of smoke. I have the rest of the sticks in my handbag - my secretary said if there's sniffer dogs at the station this evening I'll get arrested!

Almost as soon as she started the baby started moving quite a lot, then it went quiet and moved again towards the end. Could have been coincidental, I don't know. But I'll try and do anything to avoid a caesarean and it seems harmless enough.

Cost £60

Apparently you can't have it done if you've had a caesarean before or are expecting twins or if your blood group is Rhesus negative.

whensmydayoff · 03/12/2009 16:59

Nooooooo bigpreggybelly - why can't you have it if you've had a section????

howdidthishappenthen · 03/12/2009 17:07

DS1 breech from 32 weeks onwards. Tried

Accupuncture x 4 sessions
Reflexology x 2 sessions
Moxibustion for 10 days
Watching TV on all fours (about twice, felt a complete twat)
Cranial osteopathy x 1 session

All totally ineffective. Finally had ECV at 37 weeks - bloody hurt but did the trick. Different hospitals have different success rates, and you can opt where you go, so worth doing a bit of research before booking in. Good luck! Sam

indigobarbie · 04/12/2009 17:10

I read that chiropractors who are experienced in the 'webster' technique can help to turn babies? Might be worth googling to see if you can find out any more info on this? Even on youtube, it might be helpful

HeadFairy · 04/12/2009 17:14

My ds was breech from very early on (had his head wedged under my ribs from about 28 weeks) and refused to turn. I eventually turned down ECV at 37 weeks as I had the most horrendous bronchitis and was feeling too rough I couldn't cope.

DS was born by el cs and it wasn't really all that bad at all. Surreal, but not bad. No pain afterwards, no infections, a perfect excuse to do nothing for a few weeks (I was pretending I couldnt' do the hoovering weeks after I knew I actually could )

HeadFairy · 04/12/2009 17:19

oh my word, look what I've just found! Freaky when you can actually see the head moving down

I might probably have gone for ECV if I'd seen this first, doesn't look so bad. My mw did a good job of scaring me that it would be horrible!

bigpreggybelly · 05/12/2009 12:37

I don't know Whensmydayoff - she just said she wouldn't do it if that was the case.

Did another session of moxi at home this morning. Stank the kitchen out! No significant movement to suggest that it was any different from before. I actually think its lying across now cos I think I can feel the head on the left side, halfway down my bump. Paranoid that I'm squashing its head in bed.

Started a jigsaw last night (midwife's suggestion).

Continuing with the yoga all fours exercises.
