Hi all,

I'm 23+2 weeks pregnant with DD2. Had a scan at 20 weeks and all was perfect. Started feeling movement around 18/19 weeks, which was later than in my first, but sort of passed the flutterings and straight into the kicks. Maybe due to chasing a 14 month old around I didn't notice flutterings.

I had a bad case of D&V last week and since then the movement has slowed down.

I haven't really felt the baby move now, I think this will be the second day. Thought I felt flutters this morning but nothing compared to the kicks I was getting.

DD1 was an active, strong baby and I never had this problem but with this pregnancy everything is totally different so don't want to compare. Maybe it's a just a calmer/more relaxed/lazier baby!

I'm just wondering if I should phone the doc for an appt or if I'm maybe just being a wee bit paranoid.

what do you think?

Phone mw now. You can go to hospital and be monitored. The machine will pick up movements that you can't feel.

Hi Lola, I had exactly the same thing with my baby until recently (I'm now 30w). Right up until maybe a week ago I was having days where I was sure I hadn't felt movement at all. The first time I told the MW, at 25w, she told me not to worry and that there would be days that I may not feel anything. The second time I told her, at 28w, she told me that I should be feeling movement every day by that stage and that if it happened again, to get monitored by the labour ward. Thankfully, baby woke up after that and now moves daily - although not as much as others' seem to - I think mine is a calm/relaxed/lazy baby!

I'm sure your baby is absolutely fine

Having said all that - if you are concerned, call your MW and she can advise you to take further action if necessary.

I would go into labour ward and get monitored just in case.

Had similar experience 3 weeks ago (also at 30 weeks) when v. active baby was quiet for 2 days. I felt an idiot calling labour ward and even bigger idiot when she started moving when I got there but luckily they made me stay once I was there as by the time they got me on the monitor I was in early stages of labour - (had been too busy feeling embarrassed to notice frequency of contractions ) As I was there they were able to stop labour & give the baby steroids for her lungs in case she did appear.

It may be nothing but much better to get checked out.

Thanks, as soon as I had sent the post I thought, oh sod it, i'm going to phone the doc as I'm not going to sit worrying. So I have an appointment at 4pm. I'm hoping baby wakes up by then.

I hate that pregnancies are so different from each other as you start thinking, ooh thats different, wonder if that's ok! Someone told me before that if you count ten kicks a day then thats good. I could do that easily with DD1 but i'm lucky if I count 3 a day with this pregnancy. I know its still quite early though!

I'm not usually as paranoid as my mum is a midwife and I usually just pester her but she is on holiday at the moment and I don't want to phone and worry her!

Its also all her friends/colleagues on the labour ward so I hate phoning them in case they got "oh its M's daughter, she's such a hypochondriac" as I've already had 5 scans this pregnancy (bleeding every 4 weeks).

But thanks for the reassurances, and I'm sure it's all fine, just a lazy baby!
