dealing with heat

Hi there, I know this will sound a bit weird, but I am in Australia where summer is starting and having real trouble dealing with the intense heat here... There are no forums like this here that I can find, so I am hoping mumsnetters can help! I am 28 weeks and I work from home, which is fine but we don't have air-conditioning, just lots of ceiling and portable fans which really just move the hot air around. It is making me utterly miserable, I am moody and unpleasant lately and I am having trouble getting motivated to DO anything, which is not good as I run a business and need to be completely self-motivated to get the $$ in!
Did anyone on here have a baby in summer, when it was really hot, and if so, how did you all cope? I am from the UK originally, and I don't think you ever really climatise completely. The days here at the moment are around 30 - 35 degrees, NIGHTMARE... Help!!

Hi, I'm also in Australia and suffering with the heat. I'm 33 weeks.

Try keeping all the windows and curtains shut during the day so any cool air is kept in the house (especially with hot winds).

You could also try a portable air conditioner in conjunction with fans but keep the door shut and only cool one room at a time or your electricity bill will be huge!

A cold shower every now and then will reduce your body temperature.

A friend just had her baby, and I think that is worse as she has a heat generator almost permanently attached to her!

I am in Oz too. I agree with CQ, and would add a spray bottle of water to mist yourself and a damp towel round your neck works a treat. Once you have bub, a wet flannel over their tum helps them too.

Pouring with rain here in Canberra and only 15 degrees

Is airconditioning an option?

I am Australian and cannot cope without it tbh. I see it as necessary as heating in the UK.

If you can't do aircon I would suggest lots of icy cold drinks and cool showers. On really hot days you could go somewhere airconditioned during the hotter part of the day ie library, shops.
