What would you do? I am in ALOT of pain today with my back - tbh I am too scared to take paracetamol after so many mc's until I reach 14 weeks so I am having a lot of baths at the moment.

I have my third appt on Tues with physio - I am tempted to put it off until I reach 14 weeks too...

atm I am just resting as much as I possibly can - exercise isn't resting

I dunno what to do though??

Tell your physio the situation and he/she should develop exercises to accommodate you.

I understand your concern. I would keep you next appt. Even if you just go and talk to them and explain how concerned you are about being treated in 1st tri. Never know they might have some good tips on how to protect/support you back without doing "regular" physio treatment. Our local Hospital have Obstetric Physios who obv. specialise in treating PG ladies. Might be worth asking if you can be treated by one of them.

Have you thought of using these or something similar? My obstetric physio recommended them with my last pg. Am thinking instead of baths as iirc you need to avoid hot baths/jacuzzis when pg. I realise you didn't say you were taking hot baths but that is what I do to relieve aches and pain.

I have a 'bulging' disk, and am about 10 wks. I have been to two physio sesions so far. My therepist was quiet dubious about doing any work on me - being in the 1st trimester. However, she has just given me some gentle pilates type exercises to do. The aim is to strengthen the muscles around the disk, to hold it in place. It will also strengthen the stomach area aswell apparently. It seems to be getting easier. I didn't think I was going to cope being pregnant with it, so you must be suffering. Just make sure your therepist understands your worries. My partners disk prolapsed last year ( god knows how we have both damaged it?)and he couldnt walk, but they encouraged him to exercise gently, and he quickly recovered. Good luck

I don't know anything about slipped discs I'm afraid, but the fact that you mentioned 14 weeks and several miscarriages has jogged my memory about an article I read several years ago. A woman kept having mcs at approx 14 weeks, which I seem to remember had something to do with the time at which part of the foetus' spine formed. Specialists eventually found she had no folic acid in her body which is what was causing all the mcs. I remember the article said it isn't something routinely tested for, but it was several years ago so I don't remember the exact details of the article, and medical procedures and testing may well have changed since then. However I thought I should mention it to you in case you want to look up the article (in a womans magazine, can't remember which one sorry).

I really hope this pregnancy goes well for you.

As the others said: keep the appt and explain. You should be doing gentle exercises to get the back better while you can - you will need your strength later in the pg. (I had 2 children after 3 prolapsed discs and back surgery, with hardly any problems - but I swear by the physio, which I didn't get early enough. You back could get worse if you leave it.)

I really hope your back gets better and the pg goes well.

Thank you all. I will keep the appt - i can barely walk today and have had to take DS2 to his nans because I cannot possibly lift him into his seat and at age 2 he will not comply lol!

Cuupa = My mc's have all been before 10 weeks with the exception of one which was late on and they found I had a clotting disorder so we know whats causing the mc's and now on daily heparin injections

I would keep the appointment - a good physio should be able to work with the fact that you're pregnant. If you'r eopen to it, I'd also consider a chiropractor - they do a lot of work on pregnant women (there are a surprising number that specialise in this) and are very good for helping you manage back problems while pregnant. Being pregnant puts pressure on normal people's backs, so if you have a problem you're actually likely to require MORE intervention, not less.
