Pregnancy

Really bad morning

I woke up a while ago, after 2 and a half hours sleep and I've got massive pains in my side, like really bad period cramps but much higher up and more to the side. I can't do anything because it hurts too much and just sitting here it still kills. No idea what it is but I'm nearly in tears because it kills and I'm too tired to cope with it.

Any ideas or helpful suggestions would be great, and sorry about the moan.

(BTW I'm 38 weeks tomorrow if that makes a difference)

Feel really ill and light-headed too. What is wrong with me? I can't cope with this right now.

wobblymum, poor you. I don't know what your pain ould be but it sounds nasty. As it's a new pain and you're 38 weeks I'd phone your doctor's surgery as soon as they open. Hope you start feeling OK again soon.

Or your midwife?

wobblymum, phone your midwife now. you may think it is too early, but remember if you weren't heavily pregnant with porridge-brain-like tendancies (not being rude, just describing my own current state!) you'd be advising someone in your situation to do exactly the same....
good luck!

Wobblymum - phone the hospital ( does it have an admissions unit?) and be seen. The pain may be nothing, but it could be a number of things that need to be checked out. I don't know your admission procedure but here you phone the maternity unit direct. You need to be seen by obstertic staff, not GP IMO.

wobblymum - agree with everyone to phone MW etc given what stage you are at. However if its any comfort I had a similar pain a few weeks ago - bit earlier on that you though. Think I wa about 20 weeks at the time.

Anyway it started at a stitchlike pain on one side and built up until I had to go and lie down. Then it got so bad that I couldn't move to stand up again. It was agony and I was in tears as I was so frightened. Eventually staggered up to bed and it was only when I turned onto my side that it gradually went. I preume the baby was in a strange position and pressing on a nerve or something. Anyway thining back to it now makes my eyes water.

But you never know - maybe this is the start of labour and soon you'll feel like a human shape again

Sorry I'm only just posting now. Had loads of trouble getting online.

Thanks for all the advice, I went to see the mw this afternoon and by then the pain had gone and I felt a bit better. The mw said everything was fine and that it must just be baby shifting and giving me extra aches. Just hope it doesn't come back!! Also, mw said baby's head's now engaged so it might be something to do with that. Just glad I don't feel like death anymore!!!

Really appreciate all the concern, thanks!
