Debunk scan myth?

hello,

had a scan yesterday at 28 weeks with DC3. Both DH and I had decided we didn't want to know the sex of baby as we plan this to be our last child. However, was just coo-ing over a lovely pair of feet showing in the scan when radiographer mw whipped upwards and said "Do we want to know the sex of this baby". I said no and she moved on but, and i appreciate this might be an urban myth (and by that i mean my sister and a couple of friends), my understanding was that radiographer generally only offered if she/he could clearly see a peepee. Does this hold?

Am a bit pissed off as really wanted the surprise at the end of labour and scan room has a big sign stating "please do not ask for the sex of your baby". Anywho, would love to know if this is an urban myth or generally holds true (if only to settle argument with DH also can now only think of boy's names)

urban myth AFAIK

ShowOfHands · 26/11/2009 19:03

It's rubbish.

louii · 26/11/2009 19:04

They could just as easily have clearly not seen a "peepee".

yessss, am so looking forward to a surprise at the end of (let's face it) not the most enjoyable experience. Am not saying the surprise is better than the tea and toast but it has to be right up there.

DH yet to be budged from his boys' list yet.

'Peepee'?

weavermum · 26/11/2009 20:36

don't blame me for the peepee - mum and sister got their first when it came to naming where the pee comes from. sister had 2 ds before me and it kind of stuck. is better than mil's "little willie washer". poor dh, took him years to get over that.

no they asked me both times.

total myth, otherwise people would only ever be told if they were haivng a boy wouldn't they?

MumNWLondon · 27/11/2009 10:28

no they asked me both times and DC1 was a DD

Had a scan this morning (dd) - it is pretty obvious either way by 28 weeks from what the sonographer called the 'nappy change' angle.

Meandacat · 27/11/2009 13:32

Our sonogapher didn't ask us at all at our 20 week scan. She just said, "well, I've seen all I need to see. Is there anything else you'd like to know?" which I thought was a nice way of offering to tell us without being totally obvious about it.
