Ok have been to my midwife for my 31 week appt. Baby heartbeat all fine, my blood pressure all perfect etc then we got down to measuring!......

I am due 25th January and so 31+2(3) and am measuring over 34cm. She is sending me in for a scan at some time im just waiting on a phone call. My sister had a big baby but did not measure big till about 37 weeks.

Should I be worried?? My last appt I was 28 weeks measuring 29cm so have grown 5cm since!

any advice welcome please!!

Fundal measurements are notoriously inaccurate, I really wouldn't worry at this stage. Even with scans, there is an element of guesswork to working out the size of a baby pre-birth. This board is full of stories of women being frightened out ot their wits by big baby warnings, only to deliver a perfectly normal sized LO.

You'll be fine.

I'm not a midwife, creameggs! Just an annoying knowitall.

What I think that means is she can feel 4/5ths of the head by palpating the abdomen. If you were fully engaged she would only be able to feel a small fraction of the head. So I wouldn't rush to get your bag packed just yet.

I measured 6cms ahead from very early on, had numerous scans and scary appts with consultant about having a mahoosive baby and he was eventually born at 38 weeks weighing 7lb 11oz. I've heard so so many other similar stories. I won't be worried about measuring big this time round!

I found the most accurate midwife was one who actually had a good rummage round feeling the baby at about 36 weeks. She predicted an 8lb baby (huge relief at the time) and she was closest - they were saying 11/12lb going by FH and scan measurements.

dont panic..fundal measurements are rarely bang on..from my own experience..Im only 17 weeks but was measuring 22 weeks the other day..

4/5 means that 4/5 of the babies head can be felt above the pelvic brim..

I measured 1 to 2 cm below pretty much the whole time when I had DS. MW was always rather concerned and sent me for a scan at about 36 weeks. They predicted that he would be low-birth weight (although I found out later they didn't do the scan properly ) but he was born 6lbs 12, which is just a fine size for me thanks!

I knew all along my MW was being over zealous. Please please try not to worry, as others have said they are notoriously innacurate. I do wonder why they hold so much importance in them personally...

I was told DD was too small, as was measuring small but she was a very normal 7 5. My SIL was told baby was HUGE and he weighed 8lbs exactly.
