Implanon after MC

Hi everyone

I had an MC a year ago - no foetal heartbeat so had to have a termination (the kind where they give you that pill). It was horrendous and I was very ill, scared, and emotionally scarred. I chose to go on Implanon immediately because the thought of pregnancy was too emotionally-charged: I'm not ready to try again.

Probably the wrong place to post about contraception. It has worked well for me: no periods or any hormonal imbalance for almost a year. It has also helped with the feelings of depression I suffered post-MC. However, I have put on two stones in weight. I am a healthy eating, do plenty of walking, and have not changed my lifestyle since getting the implant.

Is this a common side effect? Or is my body reacting badly to it? Do I need to see a GP?

I'm sure children - both biological and adopted, we hope - are in my future. The contraception is really just my security blanket until I can emotionally cope with pregnancy again. All advice or experiences most appreciated.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Sorry to hear about your MC.

I had the implant in for 3 years and I put on several stone and was a size 20. Once it came to the end of the three years the weight started to drop off and within a month of it being taken out I was a 14/16 again. It was terribly depressing at the time though. It didnt occur to me to see a GP at the time but when I mentioned it when i was having it taken out, the nurse was extremely surprised. It is listed on the list of side effects i think.

I did find though that I got a lot of pregnancy symptoms in the last five months it was in and two months after it was out-nausea,sore boobs etc which kept raising my hopes!. By the time I did get pregnant (two months after the implant was taken out) I didnt realise until I was 7 weeks as I just thought it was post implant readjusting still. He is now 10.5 weeks, sitting on my lap and cooing at my dd.
