Hi ladies, a bit of advice if you'd be so kind...

Last couple of days, have had nagging achey lower abdominal, and weirdly, groin pain. Much worse today, in fact is uncomfortable to walk.

I'm 24 weeks pg.

Had a UTI picked up in my routine urine sample at 16 weeks, although had had no symptoms ? that said, after a course of ABs I did feel much less wiped out in myself, so think maybe the infection had been wearing me down even though I didn't know I had it.

Feeling pretty knackered at the mo, but that may have more to do with upping my work hours and a nighmarish 2 hour commute/nursery run than anything...

I've no other obvious UTI symptoms, no burning or anything.

What do you reckon?

Ignore it?
See GP? (NIGHTMARE to get appt... BTW)
See midwife?

Suggestions as to the best course of action from here greatly appreciated.

You should ring your midwife now! She will sort out the course of action but you need to speak to her. If you can't her then ring labour ward and ask them to tell you who you should speak to. This cannot just be left as it could be dangerous for you and baby. probably isn't - but you need to be sure. And do a wee sample now ready to take with you to wherever you're sent to!

My GP's surgery will get a doc to call you on the phone if you need to speak someone quickly (which you do, as a general rule in pregnancy). Might this be possible for you?

Or you could phone your midwife. It's always worth checking these things out though.

Yes, get it checked out ASAP. If it is a UTI, ask them to tell you what the bacteria is. If Strep b, it will have implications for anti-b in labour.

Thanks people - GP's useless. Said i could try and see the truage nurse tomorrow, but I'd have to get there for 8am (it's a hlaf hour drive away and will have a fractious 2 yo DD in tow), there's usually an hour wait for her, and then up to 4 hour wait to see a GP if she deems it necessary.

Not so tempting... trying midwife now...

thanks for responses...

That was the GP reception team who said that I assume? Pregnant woman rings them up reporting 2 day history of abdominal pain, ?? UTI and they say you can try and come in tomorrow? Idiots! I work in the NHS and I say 'idiots'! You might want to complain about them whne you've got sorted as that sounds like advice that's postively dangerous to me.

designerbaby · 24/11/2009 18:03

Yeah, it was... the GPs are generally lovely, IF you can get to see them.

I did ask if it was possible to arrange a proper appointment, as am pregnant and will have a toddler with me, to which she said "it's fine to bring your daughter"... to which I felt like saying "not for me, it's not!!" The last thing I feel like doing is chasing her around the waiting room for hours...

Last time we were there from 8am and finally got seen by the GP at 1pm [grim]. I don't quite know why as I was about number 5 in the queue... Honestly, I just HATE it...

That said, no answer from midwife number at all - good job it wasn't an emergency, eh?

Still, lucky to have free healthcare and all that, I s'pose. Just wish it worked a bit better, sometimes.

Because sometimes, when you're pregnant, knackered and feeling poorly, you just want someone to give you a break, yknow?

So what about ringing labour ward and getting them to connect you to a midwife you can talk your symptoms through with? I do think you should speak to somebody because you are at a vulnerable stage of pergancy (ok all of it is vulnerable) and infection is one of the things that can bring on pre-term labour. A UTI which progresses to the kidneys is also very dangerous for both of you. Please ring and get a plan.

Thanks Northernlurker, am resigned to doing battle at the GPs tommorow, although not relishing the prospect of either getting self and DD out of the house by 7.30am or the lengthy wait there's bound to be. But will go armed with bribes snacks entertainment for DD to try and prevent any likely meltdowns...

But hopefully it'll get sorted and that's the main thing...

The triage nurse just better not try fobbing me off, if you've managed to get past the receptionist, then the nurse is like the bloody portcullis after you've survived the crocodile-infested moat... But I'm ready for her, oh yes...

Thanks for responses though, don't know what I'd do without Mumsnet [soppy]

Good luck. Let us know how you get on. xx

Hi Ladies,

Just a quick update... it's not a UTI (which is good, I guess) but no idea why I'm so bleedin' uncomfortable. GP's attitude was very "you're pregnant, that's just the way it goes" but don't remember being this painful at any point last time...

Have invested in a bump support band, so see if that helps...

Any other ideas gratefully received. I don't think it's SPD as it's definitely lower-abdominal/back rather than hips...

Thanks for all your help, though...
