Every single time I put a toothbrush into my mouth I immediately vomit (14 weeks at present) Is there any point brushing my teeth to then expose them to stomach acid in this way? Any solutions?

If you can stomach it, use mouthwash, just swill it around, surely this is a tiny bit better than not brushing at all......

sorry you are going through this

would you be able to do the mouthwash, as hoops suggests, and floss too? Or would that make you feel ill? Poor you!

Use a fluoride mouthwash, or even mineral water. DO nOT brush immediately after vomiting either - the acid will effectively soften the enamel surface, if you brush you will just wear the surface away. Even just swilling with a bit of toothpaste ( no brushing will help a bit ).

If you stop brushing for the rest of your pregnancy, your teeth and gums will rot. Mouthwash will not do anything.

Try to be a bit more gentle with the toothbrush and don't poke it so far back. Maybe use a smaller one.

Hello,

I had the same thing (currently 21 weeks)- it's died down a lot now.

My dentist said i should use Corsydol mouthwash daily as it would help.

He said also that eating apples helps to clean the mouth as they are quite rough.

I didn't ask him whether i should persevere after being sick tho- after puking i tended to abandon the exercise!

Hope that helps.

Can you try chewing gum? That helps. Though I couldn't face it. Can you floss + rinse?

Rinse lots during the day, even with water. If you feel sick when you put your toothbrush in your mouth, try again another time.

Poor old you! Happened to me too - not even cleaning the back teeth, just having the toothbrush in my mouth triggered the reflex. Mine has completely gone now (16 weeks).
