SF vaccine in 1st trimester anyone?

I'm new here but have read the swine flu threads with interest. Am currently 11 weeks pregnant and have decided to go ahead with vaccine but worried about having it before 14 weeks. I know the general advice is that it is safe in any stage of pregnancy but obviously not tested and it seems reasonable to wait until 2nd trimester. Any thoughts from those who have decided to go ahead with the vaccine early in their pregnancies?

I decided on balance that it was best to have it done, and got jabbed a few days ago when 9 weeks pg. So far no problems other than a really sore arm for a day or so, but I have to admit to feeling quite worried about my decision still. 11 days til my first scan so I guess that will show if anything terrible has happened.

I just know that I can stress about decisions like that forever so I tend to just leap in and do it before I have chance to change my mind. Probably not the best way of running my life...

I just had it today - 3 days after my positive pregnancy test. I'm guessing I'll be 5 weeks tomorrow.

I think I would have kept putting it off and hemming and hawing due to my overall anxiety about its safety in pregnancy, so when the 2nd gp in as many days offered her reassurance that she'd get it if in my shoes, I just did it. In fairness, that was after 24 hours of long discussions with DH and SIL(gp in training)and other friends. I decided that as I work full time and DD is 22 months and in nursery, the chance of my contracting SF is actually fairly high. My asthma is the worst it's been in years, so I'd be at greater liklihood of complications anyway before adding in the pregnancy factor. My final rationalization came down to deciding that whilst the vaccine may have a potential affect on the baby I'm carrying, the risk of severe/life-threatening complications of SF (or heaven forbid death) is known and probably greater for me.

I'll look to anatomy scans and fetal tests very closely and hope for the best. I will probably spend every minute of the next 20 years wondering if I made the right decision. And if there is any defect or learning disabilities I will probably wonder if it's my fault for choosing to get the vaccination.

But I can't ignore the fact that with my underlying health issues I'm at higher risk of dying from SF should I catch it, and I refuse to leave DD motherless at her very young age because I didn't take every opportunity to protect against such an event.

So. Was I wrong to get it? I don't know. It's a terrible decision to have to make.

FWIW

I had the vaccine 2 weeks ago and got a positive pg test 1 week ago. I'm 6 wks pg. So didn't really have a choice in the matter.

Had I known I was pg I probably would have gone ahead with it anyway though. The flu vaccines are very safe and a high fever any time in pg is extremely dangerous.

Rockinghorse I def think you made the right decision.

Thank you for your replies. I agree, it's a terrible decision to have to make but it seems to be the consensus that the risk to foetus, if any, is very small in comparison to risk to pregnant lady. As I have no underlying health issues I will just wait until it's finally offered to me rather than actively pursue it and hope for the best. All the best of luck with your pregnancies.
