Pregnancy
Wet tits

Ok, I know I'm gonna regret the title
I had a small leak about the 3 days ago, but last night I woke up and my chest was covered, the bed was flooded. I thought at first that I was just sweating, but no the stuff was pouring out of my right breast.
I don't remember this with DD, so do you get more leakage with subsequent pregnancies? Please don't tell me I already have to start wearing the damn breast pads.
aloha · 03/06/2003 10:31
Yes, you do! I recall it got better for me with time but was pretty full-on at night if I missed a feed. Very frustrating. I also slept on a towel. It was like sleeping in a swamp some nights. Lovely!
pie · 03/06/2003 10:33
missed a feed???
Do I have to start b/f my 4 year old DD again to deal with the leakage?? Not sure she's going to like that. Ewwwww now I have weird images of trying to get my DH to deal with the overflow. Its's going to be one of those days.
Ghosty · 03/06/2003 10:57
Pie ... love the title and the image of you trying to stem the flow ... is this what we second timers have to look forward to?
motherinferior · 03/06/2003 11:00
Aloha, she's still only up the duff!
I have been wondering about the odd bit of leaking too. Mind you, I am fully anticipating being Daisy the Cow again. Erk.
aloha · 03/06/2003 11:05
Sorry Pie! I lost track of who is pg, who is in labour and whose baby won't sleep... Oh, dear, poor you! Still, at least you won't be one of those like me wondering if your milk will ever come in and be upset about maybe not breastfeeding. Is that any consolation? Er, thought not!! Can you start donating to a milk bank yet????
WideWebWitch · 03/06/2003 11:08
Oh no! Please don't tell me I've got this to come this pregnancy? Eeewww!
SoupDragon · 03/06/2003 11:14
Don't panic - I didn't get any leakage with either pregnancy.
butterflymum · 03/06/2003 11:53
A nappy inside your nighttime bra can be more useful than pads if flow is great - beats washing so many towels!!
Jaybee · 03/06/2003 12:37
I had this with both my pregnancies - leaked from about six months pregnant onwards - had to wear the breast pads I am afraid although I found that having a warm bath before I went to bed enabled me to manually express some off which did make night times better.
Saskia909 · 03/06/2003 13:39
Have any of you heard of BLIS - stands for breast leakage inhibitor system(!) & is on Motherbliss website which is a kind of general maternity shopping thing. They are thin plastic type discs that you put in your bra instead of pads and are supposed to apply just the right amount of pressure to stop you leaking at all. Want to try them as had big probs with wet tits (love it!) last time around and am due last week. Something for Pie?
pie · 03/06/2003 15:01
Thanks for that Saskia I will give it another week or so and see if it settles down, then I might give it a try. Though it would be nice to hear if anyone else has used them with any sucess.
tinyfeet · 03/06/2003 15:05
Pie - how awful! I hope this doesn't happen to me. I have a personal question - feel free to disregard. Is the leakage happening during or just after sex?
pie · 03/06/2003 15:06
tinyfeet, no sex since Thursday and I have banned DH from my nipples as they have been really really sore the past week.
Actually after the dawn of the wet tits I don't think he'll go near them again
Rhubarb · 03/06/2003 15:10
Ooh I must try that BLIS thing too, how much is it? Can you rent? I leaked with my first pregnancy so I should imagine I will do with this one too. It was worse immediately after sex, v.embarrassing! Also my social life went downhill after giving birth as I was paranoid my breasts would leak, they would soak any breast pad I used! But the best breast pads I did find where those you reuse. I think I got them from Boots and they're cotton. Much more absorbant than the disposable ones. Also useful for when you stop b/f and your boobs go down 2 sizes!
pie · 03/06/2003 15:15
Here is the shop Rhubarb. It only 12.99 and you can get the cotton inserts for £4.99 when you run out.
tigermoth · 04/06/2003 07:50
I had this during my second pregnancy, but not during my first. Happenend at work, so I took to wearing black lycra tops (loose-ish ones so I didn't look too pnuematic with my swelling breasts) because I found that if the lycra got wet, it didn't show. Then I used to wear a cardigan on top to be buttoned up in emergencies. Very odd sitting in meetings realising your breasts were beginning to drip.
BTW Pie, I had the same amount of milk after my birth as first time roundbefore. Average but not more. The leaky breasts were not a sign of later mega abundancy.
Brookstone · 04/06/2003 13:45
isn't it awful! i started leaking at 5 months during both pgs. you think you're doing good by cleaning youself up by removing the "crusty-bits", only to start it flowing all over again!! or worse when dh tries to kiss boobs and ends up getting a mouthful!!! lovely!!
Rachael17 · 04/06/2003 22:05
wet tits is this really wat i have to look forward to
lovely an there was me thinking p/g women were supposed to be all glowing and radient
SoupDragon · 04/06/2003 22:06
Glowing, radiant, large and slightly damp Not everyone has this problem, Rachael, so don't panic just yet.
crazynow · 05/06/2003 08:36
Thanks SoupDragon you have put my mind at rest, I was beginging to worry I'm 25wks pregnant and not leaking. With my ds I had to breastfeed and bottle feed as I couldn't produce enough milk for him. I worry the same will happen with baby no.2.
motherinferior · 05/06/2003 11:09
Er...but Rachael, please don't rely on glowing! Some of us do, some of us don't. I personally am completely non-radiant, and don't really enjoy being pregnant, but it doesn't matter in the long run!
WedgiesMum · 05/06/2003 11:14
Just to cheer everyone up I read that in a second pregnany and for a second baby you produce up to 60% MORE MILK than before.....
Oh and I gave up feeding DD (at 21 months) in Feb and I STILL occasionally leak........
motherinferior · 05/06/2003 11:18
I really, really wish I hadn't read that! I was awash the last time! NOOoooooo!!!!!
