Anyone who's pregnant and decided not to have the swine flu jab?

Just had a call this morning from the GP asking me to make an appointment for the swine flu jab. I'd asked for Celvapan but the medical centre only had Pandremix. So am not having it until Celvapan is available. Now thinking again about whether I really should have it or not, since even Celvapan's unproven with pregnant ladies. Anyone decided not to have it? If so, why?

Another head-in-the-sand-mum here...

I am 11 weeks.

I don't use public transport at the moment and I h-ed my older children so it seems unlikely that I will be in contact with ill people.

We are currently living in Switzerland. I also don't know a single person who even knows someone who might have had the swine-flu...

I reserve the right to change my mind as the situation changes.

Cadmum I'm in a rural part of The Netherlands and they're just not making a big deal of it here... I've not met one person either who's had it.

Ive only read 1st page but i already know what will happen.

The OP has asked "if your not having it, why"?

You then go on to explain why then a load of PG woman who have had it, read it then go mad because you are scaremongering !

So no, OP im not having it.
I know every ingredient in it and the possible side effects and read up on it and other vaccines in great detail. Am I going to say what I read- no, not bloody worth it.
Too many people think, well if the WHO and the doc say it's ok, then it's ok by me then are ranting at those of us who have done research on our own and arguing with us!
Im not saying it WILL effect the unborn babies - Nobody, including the WHO and your GP will know until later. Im sure it won't be every baby either IF there is a problem.
As scared as I am, I PERSONALLY feel slightly more at peace with not having it (very slightly)!

Dragonrides agree you need to keep your blood pressure down and you are entitled to your opinion as much as anyone else I hate the bashing on these threads when the OP is asking opinions, if you don't agree with DR who cares there's no need to be so aggressive

I like many others have decided not to have the jab am 34 weeks and don't feel that the risk is great enough to get the jab, the average person with SF only infects 1.33 people while C Pox is 12 so I don't feel at risk of catching it and even if I do I have a 96% chance that I will deal with the illness well and carry on fine... those are odds I am willing to take

Good luck with your decision all I can say is that if you've decided not to have it don't think and worry about it (easier said than done I know) If you are that worried about catching SF then get the jab, if you aren't or feel anxious about getting the jab then don't.

I'm actually seeing both conventional and naturopathic doctors, I feel the conventional doctors do treat birth as a disease, for example, they clean up the baby fluid right at the delivery while that fluid should be absorbed to the skin of the baby to improve its immunity. I'm Asian so I grew up with Chinese medicine and acupuncture so I do think it's a science - many times it worked for me, rather than western medication which treats the symptoms and leave with many side effects, Chinese medicine balances the body in a longer term. I also try to research as much as I can with anything my naturopathic doctor recommends, and in some cases, I disagreed with him. The fact is, we can only do the best we can, it's a sad thing we get caught in the dilemma, the jab or the flu? Unfortunately, in the US seeing a conventional doctor isn't quite like seeing a doctor in Switzerland, my average visit time with a conventional doctor is about 10 minutes, asking 2 questions I get a funny look (and it's all like that), vs. at least I have a chance to discuss and challenge my naturopathic doctor, every time I get an hour.

I had pretty bad experience with the medical/insurance in the states, its not my nature to worry about everything but its from my life experiences, no one really cares about your baby other than yourself, so I guess this is the reason I signed up and try to have access as much information as possible, no agenda here. I do feel more comfortable when I was in Europe talking about the issues (more open-minded people) but really don't appreciate name calling, etc. For the sake of all of us, our happy attitude is going to pass on to our kids.

I'm not having it. I don't think it's been tested properly and the fact that my GP didn't have an opinion either way put me off slightly; he just said 'read the leaflet and make an appointment if you want it'! Also, the fact that most practioners are diagnosing swine flu without testing people for it anymore makes me wonder if the situation really is as bad as we're being led to believe!

dragonrides, there is nothing 'unscientific' about acupuncture: it has been proven to treat all kinds of conditions successfully not to mention working as an extremely effective anaesthetic during major surgery!

I have had it am 20 wks pregnant and had scan other day and baby is fine. Nothin is tested on pregnant women as it can't be so even taking paracetamol you are taking a risk as that is not tested on pregnant women !!! The amount of mercury in the vaccine is not that high bout the same amount as in tin of tuna. My midwife advised me to have it as must be needed esp as health dept advise preg women only to take paracetamol, Do u really think they would advise this if really unsure ?? I have a 18 month daughter who will be having the vaccine when available to her, she has a COLD at the moment and slightest thing I hate to see her suffer !!

All this conversation - the fact remains - it's an individual choice for each of us to make. No one is right or wrong for the making a choice that is different to the person next to them. It's what feels right to them and that is the important thing.

I'm so sorry someone has lost a friend - that must be truly heartbreaking. That news does not however change my decision not to have the jab (for now).

I have lost a baby, I know what it's like and I also know what it's like to want to do everything to ensure it doesn't happen again.

We must each make our own choices (and not be vilified for them!) about what steps we take to protect our children.

Just read about the WHO scandal oh taking kickbacks from H1N1 vaccine recently, I can't believe how fast time flies...but hopefully we all take our action before we do our homework and being well-informed of all information that's available.
