I'm 13 weeks pregnant and just starting to recover from nasty morning sickness, but still suffering from constant colds (had flu a couple of weeks ago) which is getting really annoying.

Anyway, I just can't seem to motivate myself for work at all! It's a nightmare, as I work from home 2 days and the office 1 day, although I've been at home for the past few weeks due to flu etc.

Anyone else feel like this? I've got another 5 months to go and can't bear feeling like this for much longer. I usually get a buzz out of work, but just can't seem to get my 'edge' back.

Is this normal? How do I snap out of it?

All tips very welcome!

Hi Mishy. I remember feeling exactly like this when I was about your stage of pregnancy. The initial worry/excitement had worn off and it just felt like I would be pregnant forever.

So I just decided I needed to carry on as if I wasn't pregnant and throw myself into work as normal. This worked until I was about 6 months and starting to get big/more tired but inbetween I managed to do some really good work and have lots of nice nights out etc.

Which now (with an 8 month old baby) I'm really glad I did! Try to enjoy it while you can

I had this too.. but for me it was a mixture of things.

I had to work extraordinarily hard 6 days a week 14 hours a day for the first trimester... as well as having horrendous morning sickness... and I think I was just exhausted when that stopped and my work situation changed to something easier.

Anyway, I think I was just wiped out for about 6 weeks after that (amazed I didn't have a cold etc.) and am only just getting my mojo back now. In fact I have felt tired all the way through this pregnancy (23 weeks) and am just accepting it as this experience and slowing down on all the other bits of my life (less socialising, early to bed etc.). I also found it hard to concentrate on work as all I wanted to do was read baby/birth books and go on MN (1st baby!).

If you have been so sick and keep getting colds and had flu I think you should listen to your body and take it easy, try and just do the work that you need to do at a sensible pace, eat well etc. and don't expect too much of yourself.

Oh, and check that you aren't anaemic or borderline anaemic. I was and that was adding to the tiredness/lack of interest in life generally too.

Thanks guys, it's good to know I'm not alone!

I'm back in the office tomorrow and really looking forward to it. Feel a bit nervous though, as already starting to show (2nd pregnancy!) and not ready to tell people yet. Hope nobody notices!

lucy101- I'll look into the possibility of anaemia. I had my booking appt with the mw last week and had bloods done then, so will give her a call to see if the results are back yet and if there are any signs of anaemia.

I think half the problem has been that since I came back from my last mat leave in May things were really slow for months (due to the economic climate) and I've only recently got my own project again. Feel really guilty as the client has had a rough ride in the past with loads of PM changes and now I'll be leaving in a matter of months. I'm finding it hard to motivate myself and really get into the project as I know I'm only on it for a short time.

Just need a good kick up the backside I think!

You've got a long way to go before you can take maternity leave. Why don't you book a holiday for the second trimester

Excellent idea bigpreggybelly!
