Hi,

This is about my thrid attempt at this. Im starting to think there's more scaremongering than actual heavily PG woman getting Swine Flu!

Ive put a thread on the actual swine flu site and it is very quiet there too.

I just wanted reassurance for us demented souls who are too scared to get the jab but are heavily PG and due xmas, new year and just after.

I have a 2.5 yr old DS who is used to being out everyday with lots of other DC's his age. I can't decide if the risk is so high I need to keep a low profile now or im being silly.

I don't know about anyone else but it's making me very nervous everytime im out.

Hi, I'm 27 weeks so creeping into the 3rd Trimester. My DH & DS (2.5 yr old) have both had flu this week (whether or not it's swine flu who knows?)....My DH resulted in 2 days in bed, my DS seems to be suffering a bit more.
I had the aches and pains for 12 hrs only but have been left with a lingering chesty cough and sometimes chest pain (bit like pleurisy) which meant getting checked out by a couple of dr's. But all is fine and it's just a virus.

So all in all, if this is the dreaded 'swine flu' it wasn't that bad... (oh I only had a mild fever, my son's though is bad).

However, for all we know, it could be another flu or virus.....

(just so you know, I'm not getting the vaccine, but my husband and child will be. DS is a health worker and I'll also be getting my child vaccinated after our Dr friend has been telling me of children in his ITU department with swine flu).

Hi, I am only 2nd trimester but got, what the NHS think was Swine flu. Was probably the most ill I have been in my life. Extremely high temps, shivers, can't eat, bed for days, really, really unwell and left with an awful hacking cough that lasted about a week.

Normally I am one of those people that just doesn't get anything, am hale and hearty etc but I think being preggers makes you more vulnerable. I was worried sick about the effect on the bump, but all seems well.

However, as others have said can't be 100 percent that it was sf, so have had the vax as well! Was a difficult decision but weighed up the risks and decided that sf was the worse of the two.

i am 38+2 an have just booked to have jab on advice of friend who's a GP and also on suggestion from MW that whilst she can't advise, pg women who have had SW have been "very, very poorly." i am generally a very healthy person, and was sitting on fence with this, but advice has swayed me...

whensmydayoff - I'm very nervous too. I've got a 3 year old and a 15 month old in nursery 4 days a week and there have been two swine flu incidents in there so far in the last 4 weeks so it seems juts a matter of time. I have swithered so much on the jab and as I'm only 22 weeks I've decided not to - I think I may have felt differently if I were in my last trimester.

I called the GPs today to see if I could get my kids vaccinated after the media announcement that all under 5s would be getting called forward from December. I figured that given I was pregs and not getting the jab myself maybe they would book the kids in earlier. I couldn't get past the receptionist though who just said they has all their priority patients on a list and were working through them in saturday clinics. Apparently all the clinics were full until the end of December and it didn't extend yet to healthy under 5s. She also said if I changed my mind on the jab I'd just have to wait and see if there were a cancellation as I'd missed my chance by saying no 2 weeks ago so looks like we'll just have to try and wait the winter out. I'm really scared though every day.

jojochanel If I were 22 weeks id relax (unless you have underlying health probs)?
2 guys who work with my DH have had confirmed (swabbed) swine flu and although they were ill, it wasn't the death sentence they expected. This was back near end of summer.
The last time I started this thread I forgot to say 'third trimester' and there were loads of PG woman from 5 weeks - 25 weeks who had had it (some confirmed some not) and they were fine, ill obviously but fine.
By the time you are due we will be heading for spring and so many people will have had the vaccine and you'll know more about both the SF and the jab, id wait until then.
Everyone keeps saying 'oh I only had a swollen arm, or sore arm'. Yes, thats the aliminium in the jab , nothing to worry about then!!!
Google it!

I'm 32 weeks and had swine flu at 14 weeks.

FWIW it wasn't any worse than normal flu, the only thing that was worse was the fact all the good medicines (night nurse etc) were off limits - could only take paracetamol. Was prescribed Relenza which I took on the advice of the midwife and GP but tbh I was still ill for 9 days, so I'm not sure it worked at shortening the life of the virus and of course have been worrying about the effect on Bump since, despite all the scans being absolutely normal!

Good luck everyone, hope you stay healthy and whichever choice you make works out for you and your babies.

I am 28weeks, have a DD 13years, DS5years and ds 2yeaRS, and decided to have the jab which I had yesterday, as the chances of you getting admitted to hospital when pg with swine flue is 4* more likely.
Talk to your MW aND OR GP.. but the way I see things is they are not going to offer injections just for the hell of it.. Good luck in whatever you decide hun..xx
