Im 26 weeks pregnant. For 8 weeks ive had been getting back ache, getting worse all the time.
Its complete agony and nothing i can do eases the pain. It hurts so much i cant help but cry. Its not too bad in the mornings but come about 2pm onwards its like im being stabbed with knives all over my back.

I feel like a total outcast, come the evenings im doubled up in pain and dont go out. I feel like a complete burden to my DP cos i must seem SO boring to him now.

What can i do to ease the pain? Ive tried paracetamol, warm baths, hot water bottles, gentle streching, walking etc. I cant sit still as sat too long makes it worse. My midwife is refering me to a pysiotherapist but who knows how long that will take.

Everyone keeps saying it wil be worth it once i have my little girl in my arms, but i cant imagine 14 more weeks left being in excruciating pain. Help me please :-( :-( :-(

Do you have private health insurance or could you afford to see a physio privately - I think our local one is about £45 for the assessment appointment (which includes treatment) and then £30 for any further appointments you may need.

I was getting progressively worse sciatica and a visit to a women's health physio sorted it out in one trip - she also showed DH how to stop the muscles getting into such a state again so I hopefully won't need to go back. You can find a physio specialising in women's health here. (I'd be very happy to recommend the lady I saw - she's based in GL11 if that's any use).

You could also find out where you'd be referred and see if the physio also does private appointments - you may be able to pay for the first to get seen ASAP but then switch to NHS as and when the referral gets through.

Otherwise keep badgering the MW and your GP. It should be possible to get the referral through quite fast and, sadly, she who shouts loudest...

Hope you can get something sorted and feel better soon. The physio I saw did say to lie down as much as I could now (I saw her about 28 weeks) to stop the muscles in my back having to work too hard - whatever side was comfortable, or on my back. Get your DH to check whether your spine is straight and, if not, find a jumper or towel you can roll up and use to support your waist so you're not getting distorted and stressing things further.

Fingers crossed for you.

sorry to hear it

sounds familiar - osteopath sorted me out.

check out options for private treatment. if you're short of cash it may be cheaper than you think - you might find someone offering concessions (i get treated at the british school of osteopathy where they all train - £20 a session but not much good unless you're in central london).

I waited about 2 or 3 weeks for my physio appointment to come through for back pain, but it was worth the wait. You could also try some yoga (get a DVD) which she recommended and which is helping gradually. Also ask your partner to massage your back for you, it just helps to loosen things up, even if the massage is a bit sore. My physio killed me, but it felt much better afterwards.
