Brown/slightly pink discharge...

Sorry if TMI but yesterday I went to the loo and when I wiped there was a tiny bit of brown discharge. This only happened once and so I tried not to think anything of it. Today, around the same time, it happened again but this time was browny tinged with a little pink. I'm 11+ weeks and have my first scan booked in on Tuesday. Do EPU's do emergency scans on the weekend? Haven't had any cramping and still feel quite sick, but not nearly as tired as a week or so ago.

Has anyone else had a similar experience, and if so, what did you do? Wait it out or get an early scan?

Thanks....am worried as I didn't have anything like this with my first pg .

Hi dairymoo

I am not sure if your hospital will offer you an emergency scan at the weekend but I know that my EPU was shut. Call your local gynae ward as they may see you.

Please try to remain calm until you can get scanned. Many women get spotting and their pregnancies are fine. There are many threads detailing positive outcomes an I am sure many women will respond to your thread with the same.

My own experince wasn't a positive one. I had brown spotting at 9 weeks and went to EPU next morning for a scan. Baby measured 5-6 weeks but I was 9 weeks. Missed MC was diagnosed a few days later. Even though baby had died 3-4 weeks earlier, my preg sysmptoms picked up. My bleeding was very minimal and was start stop and so before I found out for sure about the MC, I still thought there was hope but my intuition was telling me it was over.

I really hope you see your baby's heartbeat.

Hi, to offer another viewpoint, I had exactly the same bleeding you've described (which continued, and occasionally got worse, a smallish amount of bright red blood with small clots) from 6-10 weeks in this pregnancy, I had a scan, baby was absolutely fine, so the blood must have been coming from my cervix.

You can get a cervical erosion (basically an irritated cervix) mine had been irritated by having a bad cough, but it can also be triggered by sex or even constipation/straining for bowel movements. It's very, very common, and doesn't usually require treatment. As I said it cleared up by itself and myself and the baby are perfectly fine at 15 weeks.

At 11 weeks you're right at the cusp of getting into the 2nd trimester, and you do naturally start to feel less tired as the placenta starts to do the work for you a bit. The sickness will probably clear up soon too (and worry you!)

I doubt you'll get a scan earlier than tuesday but there's certainly no harm in asking your epu, you never know. Just take it easy for now and try not to think the worst as bleeding in early pregnancy is SO common and doesn't always mean you will miscarry at all!

Fingers crossed for you and your baby.

As with Jamesandthegiant I too bled in early pregnancy and DS is now 14mo and playing happily beside me. It started off as brown spotting then with some light red bleeding with traces of tissue. It continued from wk 5-8 when it just stopped. No reason given for it but the scan showed baby developing normally. It sounds as though it's fairly light spotting at the moment, which usually means there's nothing to worry about. If you can hold out Till your scan on Tuesday then at least you've got an appointment and you won't be hanging around a&e for hours on Monday. If it gets worse (painful cramps, heavy bleeding) then do go straight to a&e.

I recently miscarried at 5 weeks and even then the bleeding progressed from spotting to clots fairly quickly. So for now it sounds like you're ok. Although I do know how worrying it can be. Take care and good luck.

Thanks so much for your reassuring messages, and Sh77, I'm so sorry that it didn't end happily for you , but I appreciate your reply.

I've taken my MIL's advice of bedrest (and letting my DH run around after my DTs! ) so at least I'm feeling as if I'm doing all I can.

It has been the tiniest amount so I'm trying to be positive, and just hope that its plain sailing now until I can see someone on Tuesday.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana - I have been quite constipated and straining so hoping it's just that. Mental note to drink more water....!

I had bleeds in all my pregnancies. It's always a worry but often doesn't lead to anything if it's brown and not a lot. If you're very worried, which is very natural! - try to see if your surgery has an out of hours service. Mine does - it does require some travelling and waiting but can be worth it for the peace of mind. However they probably won't be able to scan you so if that's what you'd prefer I'd head for A&E. But put in a call to NHS Direct first - they might be able to put your mind at rest until Monay. If it's ot bright red and there's not a lot of it/increasing amounts it might not be anything to worry about at all, but make sure you get checked out in the week anyway.
