15 weeks - anyone else still running??

Is anyone else still running into their second trimester? I have always been a runner although have slowed down (as feel like a small hippopotomus despite not yet showing a bump), and cut frequency and length of runs to about 20 minutes. I know that you shouldn't take on new exercise and should not get too hot, but felt that I would be fine if I just listen to how my body is feeling.
I am 15 weeks today and with previous MMC at 12-13weeks and having had a CVS with this pregnancy have just started swimming and running again this week (a few weeks break). I suddenly panicked after reading last night that you should not let your heart rate get above 180bpm - particularly as I had just finished a 4km jog at the gym and although seemed to be going slow was puffing at the end (do not have a heart-rate monitor)!! Anyone else still exercising or have advice about this?

I don't have any expert advice on this but it was something that I looked into at the start of my pregnancy.

I too, was a keen runner before pregnancy and was adamant that I would keep running for as long as possible. The midwife and doctor both said no, but with no specific reasons.

I did read about not getting your heart rate above a certain level but I think a better indication is not to go so hard that you cannot hold a comfortable conversation whilst running. Also, not to get too hot and make sure you do a big warm up and warm down.

I felt that running helped with my morning sickness at the beginning and I ran a 5km race at 12 weeks I began to feel heavier not long after that. By about 15/16 weeks I just nfelt like I needed a wee every time I tried to run! I stopped around then which I was really disappointed about but it just wasn't comfortable.

There are lots of women who do run further into their preganancy - I found the runners world forum quite good.

Good luck if you do carry on running, but don't worry if you can't. Fast walking and swimming have replaced it for me, for now!

I ran until quite late in my first pregnancy I just got slower and slower. I kept an eye on my HR and also made sure I didn't get too hot. Not running in this pregnancy as I have other health issues which have stopped me running

I agree with listening to your body. I don't run but I'm still playing tennis at 21 weeks. If it feels right, and makes you feel healthier then carry on .

I kept running until about 20 weeks when I was expecting dd then swtiched to the treadmill as I felt a bit vunerable out on the pavements in case I fell over . From about 25 weeks changed to a 3 mile brisk walk everyday which got slower and slower and by the end walking a mile to the shops then back would take me 20 mins.

This time I walk every day and twice a week 8 mile walks (to town and back). I've got 6 weeks to go and I can't do it anymore just 2 or 3 at a time (easier to be pushing the buggy) but feel has still kept me fit/lots of fresh air etc.

Listen to your body, mine has just started telling me to slow it down a bit. Start back with plenty of walks with the pram when you have your baby before running, I was running again fairly quickly after having dd. Good luck!!

I am 19 weeks pregnant with No 2 and still running (did a 10 mile race at 15.5 weeks). I also had a CVS with this pregnancy so took it easy for a week after that. I ran til 36 weeks with DS including lots of races and had a great pregnancy so I intend to keep going for as long as possible with this one. I run at the pace of comfortable conversation now though instead of flat out!

Take a look at the Runners World forum for pregnant runners - there are loads of us knocking about!! (hi Chynah ;) )

When I was pregnant with DS there was at least one lady on the RW forum who ran till she was full-term, and many who ran until it got too sore - me included. I managed till 30 weeks and then it felt like my pelvis was going to split apart so it didn't seem worth it anymore

I stopped mentioning to any medical types as they generally came out with well-meaning (but ridiculous) things like "ooo, the baby will get a headache with all that bouncing up and down". Erm.... hehe.

I intend to keep going as long as possible this time too - but my motivation is already a bit low as I am finding it tough going, especially as I usually have to take DS in the Babyjogger plus the weather is a bit shabby at the moment.

Renerusso - interesting about you still playing tennis. I am 9 weeks today and still playing weekly badminton, I was wondering when I would have to give up - maybe not for a while yet which is great because I love it.
