Rachiesparrow · 19/11/2009 16:49

fybogel.

colditz · 19/11/2009 16:51

NO! You can spell constipated, I'm sure you could spell 'some' if you tried!

colditz · 19/11/2009 16:52

(Drink as much orange juice as you can stomach)

StealthPolarBear · 19/11/2009 16:58

black coffee

sleepwhenidie · 19/11/2009 17:02

Big glass of orange juice together with porridge with lots of soft fruits (sultanas/raspberries/strawberries/blueberries/prunes!)for breakfast.

If you are taking iron supplement tablets switch to a liquid one like floradix (you may want to consult midwife first if your iron levels are v low though!).

Obvious stuff like plenty of fruit and veg and water through day.

indigobarbie · 19/11/2009 17:41

fybogel mixed with some lactulose and orange juice, twice a day! bleugh on their own but I seem to be able to stomach them together, and it works. Also prune juice is amazing if you can stand the taste xx

Teapot13 · 19/11/2009 19:16

With regard to the iron issue, I drink prune juice. It's not that disgusting, and it has a lot of iron, so it has allowed me to reduce my iron supplement while having a somewhat helpful effect on the other problem. It probably isn't as effective as an actual constipation remedy, but I tried it before I had a chance to ask the doctor whether it was OK to take one and it seemed to work. (Obviously check with MW first before you stop taking a supplement.)

cbmum · 19/11/2009 19:20

i ate loads of liquorish and it seemed to help.

MissWooWoo · 19/11/2009 19:35

prune juice and lots of it!

am I the only person in the world who actually enjoys the taste??

bigpreggybelly · 19/11/2009 19:36

Get something from the doc. I've been taking Movicol throughout and it seems to keep me reasonably regular.

ladyandthechocolate · 19/11/2009 20:22

If you get too constipated and you really need to go but 'can't' IYKWIM then Boots sell glycerine suppositaries that you (ahem) insert and 5 minutes later the relief is incredible!

MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours · 19/11/2009 20:25

Linseed works wonders too. On your cereal or in yoghurt or just on a spoon swallowed down with juice or water.

Tigresswoods · 20/11/2009 08:05

I had this happen to me this week and felt awful, my belly was soooo tight.

The next morning (as soon as I could) I ate as much fruit and weetabix as I could. Work functions with nothing but deep fried foods are not good.

givecarrotsachance · 20/11/2009 10:22

I have porridge for breakfast with prunes, dried figs or dried apricots, and snack on dried figs or apricots. But do this gently - it can work too well.

Prune juice to drink (I also like it).

Drink plenty of water.

Lactulose if you're desperate but above things are better for you and full of good stuff.
