morning sickness worse at 12 weeks - is this normal?

I am 12 weeks tomorrow & am getting really fed up of just feeling crap all the time. Last week I was slightly better, this week seem to be getting worse again. The tiredness has kicked in now & that is just making the nausea so much worse. Does it often get worse around this point & then start to subside or am I likely to feel like this for many more weeks? With my previous pg I was feeling tired but ok from about 10 weeks so was hoping for a repeat of that but no such luck. I feel bad whining about it as I know some of you are suffering so much worse with this than me but today I just feel so fed up & low & knackered & sick etc etc.

I don't know how common it is but my morning sickness had a lull around 10-11 weeks but then was at its worst between 12 - 14 weeks. It was pretty much all over and done with by 16 weeks though. I hope that helps!

Can be... Personally I found I had two low points - around 8 weeks and 12 weeks, in between I had days when I felt fine.
It's rubbish, and I hope is soon passes for you. I stopped sickness at 13 weeks, and got energy back at 16; but everyone is different.

PS Congrats on pregnancy!

I had really bad morning sickness for two of my preganancies and normal for the other two. The main difference? I forced myself to eat - if I felt a wee bit icky, I'd eat and I'd have a mini mars bar [out of a tin of celebrations not the fun size] on me at all times. For me it was all about keeping my blood sugar levels up.

So yes, it comes and goes but all of a sudden, you will start feeling better and wonder why you thought it was so bad.

Hi roundabout

yes i also had a slight improvement at 10 weeks and then back to yuksville 11-14 weeks. Not sure how i made it through my scan.

BUT dont be disheartened the point is you have got through the first 12 weeks and the chances are things will start to improve slowly from now.. just keep ticking off the days and looking forward to the 20 week scan

sorry to have to say this but I was sick sick SICK for at least the first 16 - 18 weeks of both my pgs. It did get better for a period of about 6 or 7 weeks after that but then the last 5 weeks were sicksville again. Absolutely bloody awful, if I'm honest.

LuckyC · 18/11/2009 09:32

Roundabout exactly the same as you, my MS improved at about 11 weeks, then totally peaked at 12-13 weeks, then completely disappeared. So hang in there - you probably don't have long now.

MS was a bastard awful thing from hell and it's just so fantastic to feel normal again.

Zil131 · 18/11/2009 10:41

Oh yes, also agree with Twit - just keep eating. I'd have cornflakes to keep the sickness down, a cereal bar in the car on the way to work, toast mid morning, lunch as soon as it hit 12.00 etc...!
Ignore the patronising bookswhich tell you there should be no weight gain in the first trimester (or even loss due to sickness...), in both my pregs I put on a stone in the first trimester, then it evened out in the second.

Best of luck.

I think I asked a similar question when I was pregnant. The answer (in my case, possibly not in yours) was that it did get worse before it got better. But I was being sick daily up to 20 weeks, and 1-2 times a week until 30 weeks. Sorry! I really hope it's not the same for you.

fakeblondie · 18/11/2009 11:11

Hi
Ms peaks at 8 and 12 weeks when hormone levels rise in relation to your period-to supress it. Once your would be period time is over it will subside.

Twit · 18/11/2009 12:41

yes, although I put weight on at first, once the ickyness faded I ate sensibly and normally, they were telling me to try to eat more at the end.
I had to have a boost of sugar [hence the mars bar sweets and/or glucose tablets] even while eating good stuff regularly otherwise I be sick.

Peaks and troughs for me. Just felt sick up to about 12 weeks, then was sick several times a day upto about 20 weeks. Had 4 weeks of feeling much better, then feeling sick again. Im now 32 weeks and feeling sick most days.

I don't think there are any set rules, everyone is affected differently. I really hope you are lucky and start to feel better soon .

Have you tried ginger or travel bands, didn't work for me but I know some people who say they do for them?
