at my 20 week scan the sonographer pointed out my placenta is close to my cervix..i had a minor bleed last week but the doctor did not pick up on this at the time.she said it wasn't placenta previa as it didnt cover the cervix but i need to be careful with lifting my toddler/stairs..i have had extreme anaemia and bad morning sickness so far and now this..i am feeling seriously sorry for myself and worried about the pregnancy..i still have a whole 4 and a half months to get through...of course my toddler is not sleeping at night..she has terrible ezcema which she's never had before(going back to doc today)and although DH helpful feel like he doesnt get quite how hard i'm finding it right now(he just had boy's weekend and this weekend his family pitch up from overseas so he wants some 'time off' though i will get mon. and tues. in return to rest while he looks after our daughter)i also deal with most of the night waking.i am a s.a.h.m.am aware my hormones are making me more upset and freaked out..help!

I hope you aren't feeling too bad - and maybe just venting helped a bit!

I am no expert in all of this but I was told at 22 weeks that my placenta looked like it was sitting a little low too. I hadn't had any bleeding though. I was booked in for another scan at 34 weeks where they can check on the position of the placenta.

I went home and looked on the internet and spoke to a few people and it seems it's very common, and in most cases it moves up of its own accord. My scan isn't for another 2 weeks so I can't tell you whether mine has or not, but I am sure that you will be fine. They have to tell you to be careful, esp with a minor bleed, just to be on the safe side. I think you probably are more sensitive as you are so tired but if you are worried, then maybe talk to your midwife.

Hope you get a good nights sleep and some peace of mind!

thanks for replying..i think i am just feeling a bit too tired to cope with unexpected developments..i read somewhere online it was more common in older mums so i started feeling like maybe i was being selfish having another baby at 40 but i am booked in for another scan at 32 weeks so they will be keeping an eye on things so fingers crossed.hope all goes well for you in a fortnight..i cant pretend i am feeling superperky yet but you've definitely made me feel a lot less worried

You'll be fine. It's not actual placenta previa and it sounds like you have time for it to move further.
Is it anterior or prosterior?
I had prosterior previa with DS and bled loads throughout. It had moved quite a bit by 37 weeks but not quite enough for a natural birth - mine started off really low and covering the OS though.
If you have an anterior low placenta there is even more chance of it moving further up as the front wall stretches the most.
Try not to worry, you don't have complete previa and a little bleeding when it is low is normal.

i'm feeling better and better to hear it's not so uncommon and not all doom and gloom..i have anterior..i think i had finally stopped throwing up,people were telling me i looked well so the bleeding was a complete shock.i have 4 friends pregnant at the same time and of course have lots of mummy friends already because of DD and just feel like everyone else seemed to have sailed through their pregnancies without any probs so felt like all this a bad sign..but i'm reassured now..thanks.

I have a low-lying anterior placenta and had a light bleed at 24 weeks. All was fine and it hasn't happened since. Doctor monitored me in hosp for 36 hrs but seemed unfazed. I'm now not as worried as I was.
