After a fairly good appointment with my named midwife last week, and a sweep which resulted in a show on Monday (but nothing else).
Midwife came out to see me this afternoon to perform another sweep says that she couldnt actually do one because my cervix is so posterior (which it always is), and is showing no signs of being ready, its long and babys head although engaged has not come down enough to apply any pressure to it
She said she thinks its highly unlikely that I will go into labour between now and next appointment on tuesday (will be 41 wks then). She has said I can ask to be booked in for an induction at this appointment.

Im so gutted, I just wanted it to happen naturally, Ive tried everything (apart from sex), i didnt want to be induced again, I dont want to be consultant led and I dont want to keep waiting and nothing happening.

Does anyone have any good stories they can tell me that are similar, has anyone been told their cervix isnt ready only to start a few days later? Failing that I'll have a large dose of sympathy please

good luck to you too waddle, its so hard isnt it. I too hoped this baby would be earlier and therefore smaller as have been massive all the way through, although last 2 babies have been normal size.

Is your consultant appt to discuss induction?

I have another mw appt on tuesday, for sweep and to discuss where we go from here. Am torn between just getting it over and done with and going for friday, or waiting a bit longer.

I am very achy today, pain in back and bump, but not thinking anything of it as theyre not contraction like and until Im screaming on the floor I will not believe ive gone into labour

Have done the deed 3 nights in a row now, am giving dh a night off tonight, plus Ive just washed all the bedding

lol mosschops, I don't know if I can be bothered to try again tonight... sad eh?

appointment is to discuss induction and options so I guess I need to decide what to do too re induction - am tempted to go for it asap but wanted to avoid it cause of the risk of intervention and poss emcs, might ask them to do a really good sweep tomorrow - my mw doesn't seem to think I need to see her now that I am seeing consultant tomorrow....

I was really achy and had pains last night, and peanut was moving like mad but again this morning .... nothing! arghhhh

fingers crossed we'll have something happen soon!

Joycey29 · 16/11/2009 19:05

Lol at moss and waddle! Poor dh's 10 months ago a night off would have not meant the same thing! Hope you are both contracting on the floor as I write- no twinges here but only 38.4 so it would be hopeful . Good luck!!

iateallthecreameggsyummy · 17/11/2009 10:41

Joycey no way 38+4 every time i see one of your posts i am at how fast time has gone by! Im 30+1 now!

Good luck though hope your baby comes soon for you! xx

mosschops30 · 17/11/2009 11:11

Nothing happening here had terrible pains last night and even phoned dh to come home from work.
Then they stopped and nothing since!

Sweep today cant say Im holding out much hope.
Am still trying to decide whether to go for induction this week or next

Can I join in please? Feeling very despondant as have had days of "false" labour and hours of painful contractions that then stop. Saw MW today (am 41 weeks) who said baby is on right side and less engaged than last week - could be the reason for it not steaming ahead. Have had a sweep and cervix was soft but she has booked me for induction next week and I feel like it might never happen. Have been really good about sitting postions etc so feel really concerned about baby's position, any ideas? Hope your sweep was successful moss.

What worked for me was

a long walk
rhubarb and custard for lunch
curry for tea
raspberry leaf tablet the next morning
more rhubarb
baby born that morning 10 days early if you believe the m/w. 4 weeks late in my world

nothing worked with dd who was 6 days late.

mosschops30 · 18/11/2009 09:37

well what a difference a good midwife makes!! My MW still off so saw another one yesterday who was very positive, booked my induction for the day I preferred (MOnday), talked to me about what my options were re. continuous monitoring etc.
She said she'd do a good sweep, said my cervix was still posterior but a little shorter (2cm compared to 3cm last week), said it would hurt whilst she moved it forward (it was painful) and she kept it forward and swept and swept for ages.

This resulted in a night of strong contractions, some were 60 seconds long and about 8 minutes apart, I eventually fell asleep, woke up again in pain, then slept again but nothing this morning.

Another sweep friday, then induction monday, although feel altogether much better about all of it today, she was much more positive than the other MW without making any promises, it was just what I needed

ooh Moss, you're booked for induction same day as me!

I had an appointment with the consultant yesterday and the one I saw was lovely, apparently I'm 2cm on the outside, 1cm on the inside and 'nice and soft' so the pains have been doing something... she gave me a really good sweep and I have been letting go of mucous [yuk emoticon! - tmi i know!] non stop really since then... she also said she felt peanuts head whilst in there!

so if she doesn't emerge naturally this week 8am on Monday is the breaking of waters.....

fingers crossed for everyone waiting!

mosschops30 · 18/11/2009 10:09

ooh waddle why are they starting you off with ARM? Can you not have gel first?

We sound at about the same place, I am 1-2cm dilated, baby's head is well down (agree its weird that someone else touches your babies head whilst its still inside you), cervix is now forward and 2cm long.

Forced dh into another session last night as she said it would be good after sweep, bless him, think its the only time in the last 8 years he's had it four times in one week lol.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you, please keep in touch, our babies might end up being birthday sharers yet

just realised I started my thread with 'ooh' as well, how odd, wasnt intentional

Good luck Mosschops! Just a word of advice about repeated sweeps: some midwives will refuse to do more than 2 (mine did) on the basis that if they can do it properly once and nothing happens it (tiny little voice here) probably won't work at all. I just mention this so you don't get your heart set on the next sweep working! That's what I did and I was totally crushed when nothing happened.

I am being very conscious here of trying not to make you worried and have debated adding this point, but my own MW also thinks that repeat sweeps (ie, more than 2 or 3) expose you to a greater risk of postpartum uterine infection, which incidentally is precisely what happened to me. I was only successful in arranging multiple sweeps because I saw different midwives. So I'd have a think about whether or not you want to have another sweep under the circs; I was so desperate to give birth that I might have done it anyway, though!!

Also, I've replied to some of your other posts but wanted to say not to worry too much about the size of the baby and the size of your bump - my roommate from university is an obstetrician and he says that there is no correlation at all! He's seen enormous women come deliver tiny babies and women with very neat bumps produce massive ones. So your bump size could just be because it's your third!

Go for lots of walks and keep moving and hopefully it will all start up on its own! I don't know if you've been induced before but I have to say although it would not have been my first choice I thought it was infinitely better than being pregnant for a second longer

Joycey29 · 18/11/2009 10:44

Glad you have a date moss and waddle it will be easier to know you won't be pregnant for ever. Induction is intense but preferable to being pregnant!!
Iaatcey can't believe you are only 10 weeks away!! Will let you know when the first 'step away' baby makes it's appearance!!!

Joycey29 · 18/11/2009 22:27

Bugger- went for check up and fluid low again so being induced tomorrow!!! Feel a little shell shocked!!

waddlelikeaduck · 19/11/2009 10:44

I suggested to DH about 'giving it a go' and his response was yuk - you're muscousing now! lol so I guess that option is out unless I stop losing mucous!

felt very low down last night and the occasional twinge etc but nothing significant, am getting really bored now and the house is at risk of being 100% clean and tidy - dh may come to expect this! lol

DH is off to work this afternoon so hopefully by the time he finishes tonight I may be getting some movement if left to some peace and quiet, although have to take DS (age 10) to school disco later....

Hey Moss and everyone else, im due to be ref back to consultant on the 30nov if baby has made an appearence thats a week next mon but im same as you i really dont want to be consultant led! I have so many diff midwives telling all sorts cos mine retired when i was 20 weeks - without saying anything! and no they said there isnt any point in me being allocated one cos i will end up under consultnat anyway!

Truth is i still have another 6 days till buba due! but i have had lots of movements and pains and head is right down! due to see midwife on tue day before buba is due, i know there is a minute chance it will come before its supposed to but i am hoping midwife will do a sweep day before due date, i know some will and some wont! my luck is she wont! Ive done loads to try and get baby in best position - which it is in...so have no worries there, ive only stopped working this week so stayed as active as possible which some midwives said was great and was sure baby wouldnt hang about in there some didnt nothing but whinge and said i should have my feet up! However ive had 3 3 false labours, was even on labour ward one time this week andthey thought it was starting but sent me home and everything just faded off! so infuriating! it just feels like we are waiting doesnt it!

Fingers crossed for eveyone! im going for another walk with dog, DH at home though so sticking to main roads just in case! xxxxxxx

Joycey29 · 21/11/2009 09:39

DD turned up Thurs at 16.30 weighing 7lb1oz.
All doing well - good luck to you all and I hope she's the first of many!!

newmomma · 21/11/2009 14:24

Congrats Joycey29
Must have been a bit hard getting your head round her turning up earlier than planned even though you were induced, but she is a good weight!
