well everyone's different but no way could i have done a holiday abroad with an 8 week old. is that 8 weeks by your due date? you may go upto 2 weeks overdue, leaving you with a 6 week old to take on holiday.

How long on the plane? Little babies are very portable and if you are bfing you won't need to take too much stuff for it. Having said that I was still very fat and had nothing to wear when my dd was that little. And not really getting up and dressed until lunchtime. Could you postpone the holiday for a month? I would have been more up for a holiday when mine was 3 months, got a bit easier then, was a bit more in the swing of it.

Depends on the type of holiday. I was booked on an adventure holiday in Egypt when I found out I was pregnant. Luckily I managed to claim it on my insurance - I would have been about 10 weeks when I was due to go and the tour company wrote a letter saying the activitie were not suitable for expectant mothers.

I took DS on a holiday when he was about 3 months old but it was a major pain to be honest. He did not sleep, got a cold, would not let us go into a reestaurant to eat ... iit was not worth the hassle. Not a holiday in my book. But really depends on the baby and the type of holiday.

thanks all, well it is actually a wedding we are going for, all the family are going and we have decided to book for another week after the wedding to act as our yearly holiday, so i am trying to make a decision early, but it is very hard. i think the thought of flying with a newborn scares me.

Could work out well then, family around to help, they will be queing up to get time with newborn. Worst that will happen is you have a grizly baby you are pacing the plane with, not nice but at least it is only 4 hours. With any luck nice milky drink for take off and bubs will sleep for much of it.

We did lots of long drives when dd was 3-6 months, mostly really easy, got harder when she got older.

Hi - do you have to make a decision now? If it is already booked, can you decide nearer the time?

It depends on a few things IMO:

How helpful/ considerate your family really are. They may be around to help during the day, but the baby may still be needing nighttime feeds....(I went to see MIL when DS was 6 weeks old and getting up in middle of night in strange environment to bfeed was not great)

Are you booked into a villa and staying with other people? If so, how will they feel being woken every 3 hours or so during the night with a baby crying.

How settled your bub is; if you have an easy / non colicky baby then it may be doable.

If you do decide to go, then I would recommend looking at something like an amby baby natures nest. We went away with DS at 14 weeks for a week and the amby was a godsend, his sleep didnt get disrupted at all.
