Hi, I know there have been so many posts already on this subject but I am so unsure. One minute I want the jab and the next I don't. I am booked in to have it next Saturday. I will be 16+5 weeks pregnant. I also have ashma and I suffer really badly when ever I get a little cold. I feel because of this I have no choice but to get the jab. Does anyone else feel like this?

I spelt asthmatic and asthma wrong in the post. Silly me!

I have posted about this a lot on the other swine flu threads - am asthmatic too - agonised over it - had the jab and definitely feel it was the right decision for me - you are in the 2nd trimester too which makes it slightly easier decision perhaps - I had mine at 19 weeks with no problems. Best of luck with your choice.

Had mine yesterday if that helps, 20/40

thedollshouse · 12/11/2009 19:06

I'm not having it, however if I was asthmatic I definitely would have it.

Trying4Baby1 · 12/11/2009 20:20

I'm 16wks and asthmatic and I've just turned it down. It's personal choice and I know it's hard but if you think it's the right thing to do then go for it.

lizzie9442 · 12/11/2009 20:29

If you don't mind me asking why you turned it down? x

sorry I meant to say why did you turn it down?

I'm in the same boat mine is booked for tomorrow I will be 15weeks + 3.

I suffer when I get a cold so for me it was a bit of a no-brainer also my hubby and I both commute to London and my daughter goes to CM with school age children! So I thought the risks are higher than if I worked locally!

I guess the way i look at it handling simple things like money can be contaminated with germs etc....realistically I use the anti-bac gel loads but is never going to be enough unless everyone is doing the same!

urbanewarrior · 12/11/2009 20:41

I'm not pg, but am asthmatic and had swine flu and ended up in A&E. If I was pregnant I'd have it. Hope you're happy with whatever decision you come to and good luck with the pregnancy.

SuiGeneris · 13/11/2009 12:43

pregnant and asthmatic too, due to get vaccinated next week. Would have had it in Sept had it been available...

roundabout1 · 13/11/2009 14:28

Hi I'm 11 wks pregnant & asthmatic & plan on having it & the seasonal flu vaccine although not together. However letter from gp surgery about swine flu came this morning & am a bit nervous about it. Won't be booking my appointment yet, want to get the 12th week & mw appointment done first but while I want it, just after the 12 week mark seems early to be having it iykwim.

first1 · 14/11/2009 11:27

I'm pregnant and asthmatic too and definitely having sf and seasonal flu jabs. Booked in for 23rd Nov when I'll be 15weeks

lizzie9442 · 14/11/2009 11:35

its really reassuring to see that so many of you are having it. It makes me feel more confident. I just want to have it and get it done so I don't have to keep going over my decision. I'm quite ill at the moment though with a saw throat and cough. If I still feel like this next Saturday I don't think they will let me have the jab.

Hi, I'm 25 weeks pregnant and had both my swine flu jab and seasonal flu jab on Thursday night. Apart from the really sore red arm on the side I had the sf jab, I was climbing the walls last night til 5am with anxiety, heart beating at what felt like 5,000 beats a minute and difficulty breathing. Not sure if this is just anxiety due to having to make the decision of having the jab or a reaction to it but thought I should let you know... Feel much better today and NHS direct were BRILLIANT! They said it was normal to have a reaction and that the difficulty breathing could be due to baby putting pressure on my lungs, so they talked me through it and made me feel a whole lot better. Baby did somersaults all night which apparently is a good sign!

I'm pg (30 weeks) and also have an underlying condition (not asthma) and when I saw my GP on Thurs (unrelated) he said to me, off his own back, not only would I be in the first 200 in the surgery but he wanted me in his "highest priority" group. I got a phone call on Friday to say the jabs have arrived and they are running a clinic Monday evening for heavily pregnant women WITH underlying conditions to get them done first and asap. The fact my GP thought this approach was necessary has made me feel that having the jab is the right thing to do. I think the fact that you have 2 risk factors together (preg + asthma) in many ways makes the decision more simple than 'just' being pg.

newarrival · 14/11/2009 14:32

Hi I wanted to advise you that if you are asthmatic or have any other underlying condition then I really feel its best to have it done. For your own peace of mind above anything else.
I'm asthmatic & in the past have been hospitalised with pneumonia & as others have already said on here I think the decision is easier if you already have a medical condition. I've had both jabs done last week, was lucky with no side affects just a sore arm. Baby been moving around quite abit since & don't feel any different to be honest. Just relieved I made the decision. Good luck xx

mrsmandm · 15/11/2009 16:45

I'm preg and asthmatic and after lots of reading and thinking, I'm getting it when offered.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 15/11/2009 19:55

Same here - pg (32 wk) and asthmatic. My GP surgery doesn't have the vaccine yet, although I've had the normal flu jab. Hope it comes in soon otherwise it will be a bit late! If you actually catch swine flu, it's a bugger because we can't take Tamiflu being pregnant and Relenza is not recommended when you're asthmatic. So the jab is most definitely the best way forward.

Josie22 · 16/11/2009 10:43

I am also pg (23weeks) and asthmatic. I have gone from one extreme to the other with this decision but at the moment I have decided that I am going to have it. It's not a great decision to have to make though and I really wish that none of us had to - it's a bit of a catch 22. My asthma isn't bad - but every cold/flu goes straight onto my chest and lingers for weeks. I am also fed up with feeling scared of catching it. I went to the theatre on Friday and every time someone coughed near me I practically flinched! I figure that the worst that can happen if I have the jab to either me or my baby isn't as bad as the worst that could happen to us if I catch sf.

Still petrified though and would rather have celvepan than pandemrix but not sure how to go about requesting it and doctors are being very unhelpful where I am.

I have been on other threads on here and one in particular seems to be turning into a bit of a mud slinger but I don't think anyone is taking the choice lightly and a person's decision is ultimately there's to make and should be respected as such.

I wish all the pg women on here good health and happy pregnancies whatever you decide.

LuckyC · 16/11/2009 15:04

If I were asthmatic I would definitely have it.

I am probably going to have it anyway, also based on breathing problems. The only reason I have hesitated is that I work from home, don't have other DCs, so not much contact with risky people.

Currently, I feel that the risks posed by SF are much higher and more proven than the risks posed by the vaccine.

Good luck to everyone making the decision!
