Little movement at 27 weeks

Everyone is telling me not to worry, but... There seem to be days (like today) when I don't feel my baby move at all. In fact it just moved for the first time today so I guess I shouldn't be worrying... But I thought that by now I should be feeling regular movement for most of the day.

I've tried drinking ice-cold water and it hasn't ever worked - I guess baby is like its dad and is immune to the cold!

Does anyone else have experience of non-movement this far gone?

if baby has not moved 10 times by 9pm tonight then please go directly to hospital, do not pass go, do not collect £200..its better to be reassured and find baby is fine than to not get checked out.
I had this with DS2..Id barely feel anything in the day,.but it transpired that he was in fact very much awake in the middle of the night.
another thing to try is get down on all fours or have a bath, either usually provoke some activity

I know people who never felt their baby move throughout their entire pregnancy. Do you know where your placenta is, if it is at the front it can cushion some of the movements. Is this your first baby, do you have anything to compare it to?

The fact that you did feel it move is always a good sign but of course it is always worth getting checked out if you are genuinally worried. Better safe than sorry and all that!

I felt next to nothing all through both of my pregnancies. Certainly nothing more than little flutters. I used to go to yoga classes and all the others would be talking about how they couldn't sleep for all the kicking and I got soooo paranoid about it all.

I have, however, ended up with two extremely boisterous boys . More often than not I think it's just that some people feel the kicks more than others. However, if you are at all worried, do a kick chart and talk to your midwife. Sometimes, you just need to hear that heartbeat to reassure you that all is well.

I have a cup of coffee when I'm worried. The caffeine almost always wakes it up for a good kick, then I get punished by being kicked in the pelvis. I know that's not a very orthodox way of making your baby move, but it seems to work! My SIL suggested eating lots of Haribo sweets - apparently the sugar would always make my niece move like crazy!

fiziwizzle · 10/11/2009 18:09

Thanks for your comments. Caffeine doesn't work (I have tried!), I haven't tried having a bath though so might try that. Mmm, nice relaxing bath... It is my first pregnancy and I'm sure I'm worrying about nothing, but there are days when the baby seems to move almost constantly and then days like today where there is so little movement, it's... worrying!

It has just done a little wriggle now though - umprompted

yes mine seems to be quite sporadic with movement. Some days nothing and other days lots. I am 34 weeks now and it started to get like this @ around 29 weeks. Before that it was more consistent - i have put it down to him having less room.

BellasYummyMummy · 10/11/2009 19:34

hi fizi,

i am 24 weeks and have found that my baby is also quite quiet. This is my second pregnancy, and i think my first was much more active by this point.
I do think though that a lot of the time i am on my feet, running around, or talking lots so dont really feel/register the movements, or chasing around after my 18month old!! I find if i sit/lie quietly for maybe 5 mins ill feel some kicks. If not i whip my doppler out to check the HB and its always strong. I think we just dont feel it sometimes, its so well cushioned in there! and if your placenta is anterior then you really will have a hard time feeling bubs.

Mama2b5 · 10/11/2009 19:42

i think you should keep an eye on the movements and maybe just call your MW its most probs nothing but its better to have it confirmed weight of your mind stressing cant help! im 28weeks tomo 29weeks and my baby is moving alot but everyones preg is different so go with how you feel! all the best

When I was expecting my first, my midwife uysed to say to put a heavy book on my tummy if I was anxious. It would soon be kicked against. And sure enough, she was right.

I used a normal hardback book, mind, not The Sunday Times World Atlas.

woowa · 10/11/2009 20:34

Fizi, do you have a 28 week check next week? As it's your first DC (I think?), you should have one. Sure MW will confirm that all is well at the appointment

See you back on the february thread!!

fiziwizzle · 13/11/2009 10:29

Yep have a 28w appt on Monday and will mention it to the MW. In fact I did at the 25w appt and she was very breezy in dismissing it. EVERYONE is telling me not to worry (and yes it's my first so I'm sure i'm completely overreacting) but having read this thread I'm now panicking again. Baby is once again very quiet this morning in fact I can't recall a movement; but this has been the pattern for the past few days and it tends to move in the afternoons. So I suppose I should stop worrying

Have you tried playing some music? I find with mine any classical music with piano results in lots of kicks and is the most reliable way of checking on the baby (cold water and sugar did not work for me, did not try caffeine or book).
