Hi All,

I'm now 9 weeks along, and for the past couple of weeks I've been getting trapped wind nearly every afternoon which lasts all evening. Some evenings it gets really quite painful. I didn't know if anyone would have any suggestions about pregnancy-safe remedies? I've never really suffered with it before so have no idea!!!

Thanks

Sam

Yes Yes at 8 weeks myself and had it all last week, I took deflatine and soda water, it was very painful.

Exercise helps, as does massaging your tummy.

I drink lots of peppermint tea, which I think is safe - I think it makes a bit of a difference! Being bloated is one of my least favourite things about early pregnancy, and I find that if I have a bowel full of wind (or poo ) it presses on my uterus and gives me cramps.

People with really bad trapped wind take peppermint oil, but not sure it's safe for pregnancy in that strength.

Deflatine is fine afaik.

Check the packet.

I had it a lot. I didn't take anything but drank fruit/peppermint tea, walked around and the best help was getting my boyfriend to rub my lower back - that really helped if I was having a lot of pain. Good luck.

Wind-eze is also fine during early pregancy, I made sure to check with the pharmacist. I got to the stage where sitting down was really painful because of the pressure on my abdomen. Nasty. Try not to drink too many fizzy drinks either, they make the aituaiton worse. Hope you feel better soon, and congratulations by the way!

I take charcoal tablets which are good (from Holland & Barrett) and peppermint tea.

Get down on hands and knees (if at home, not so advisable when in public!) and make circles with your hips clockwise for 4 then anticlockwise for 4 rotations, will get all that air moving and hopefully 'expel' the problem!! Good luck! (I've been almost crippled with my trapped wind and this does work for me... although DH loves taking the p**s afterwards!!)

Gaviscon is effective and safe

I was told that windeze was only safe to take once a day - so would save it up and then to help move it though i sat on the exercise ball and just did gentle rotating movements.
Good luck!

Fennel tea - if you can try and get fresh seeds to make stronger tea, it works a lot better.
