Swine Flu Vaccine Side Effects Anyone?

Any vaccine buddies out there who can share symptoms with me please?
I had the jab two days ago, and I feel terrible! If I hadn't had the jab, I'd think I'd caught swine flu!! It's entirely possible that I was already harbouring a really bad cold and it's a complete coincidence. However I saw my MW this morning for a routine appointment and she thinks it's the vaccine, as she knows other people who've had the same thing.
Basically I've got a raging sore throat, headache, full on head cold, streaming nose, sneezing loads etc, just like a bad cold really. I haven't checked my temp yet. If it was flu I'm sure I'd be laid up in bed tho.

Anyway, would love to know if anyone else has similar stuff going on.

It's your immune system reacting to the dead virus in the vaccine - believe it or not this is a good thing as it means the vaccine is working and you are producing antibodies. You would feel a lot worse and for a lot longer if you had the flu, believe me.

Can I just say you are very wise to have got the jab to protect yourself and your baby.

As it s an inactivated virus I would have thought vaccine specialists would claim your symptoms are a co-incidence, rather than direct evidence of vaccine working? No? It is not a live virus.

really? Your body doesn't know it is a dead virus? All the DOH people saying it is a dead virus so cannot cause flu

ehm yeah, that's right. It hasn't caused flu. It has caused her body to react in the normal way to a virus - producing antibodies and with an immune reaction, but she doesn't actually have the flu - her body just thinks she has. Because the virus is inactivated it will not multiply in her system and make her ill. That's how vaccines work.

I know that is how vaccines work But I thought it was quite a fluey reaction to a dead virus. Fine if that is expected.

Is this a regular side effect of the jab then? Don't know anyone who's had it.

Mine is booked for the 19th in the p.m, that evening I'm travelling to Plymouth for a weekend break, don't want to have it if I'm going to get ill afterwards.

I think it depends on the person - some people will just have a sore arm/neck and others will feel quite bad - depend how your immune system reacts to the jab. Don't think there's any way of knowing in advance.

There were a few of us on the other s.f. thread who had the jab. All reported very sore arms but nothing else. So from the posts on that thread, by no means is this reaction the norm.

But other posters may disagree?

Well who knows? It could easily be a cold or even flu as it takes a while to build up immunity. And the people your mw knows who have the same symptoms might also have a cold!!

Thanks for feedback. I must just be a bit unlucky I guess! At least I know my immune system's doing what it's supposed to. Hopefully will feel much better tomorrow.

I had the jab yesterday - and my arm's incredibly sore today - no other side effects though...

Just to let anyone who may be interested know........I still feel totally terrible! Didn't go to work today, which is very unlike me.
BUT...I've come to the conclusion that this must be a coincidence and not linked to the vaccine I had on Tuesday, as these symptoms are too severe to be side effects. I guess I must've just had a bad cold about to hit, and it happens to have come at the same time as having the jab. So anyone who may have been worried, I really wouldn't be. I am the only person on here as far as I can tell, that's had any side effects other than a sore arm (I had that too, really sore the day after, but fine now).

Just didn't want to worry anyone really.

Back to bed now.........

Does anyone know whether the unborn baby gets any immunity to swine flu if his/her mother is vaccinated?
What about post-birth - would the baby acquire any immunity if breast fed by a vaccinated mother?

i understand breastfeeding passes on some immunity. but i heard that from someone not medically qualified so not sure how much to rely on it.

I too was thinking it could possibly be a cold youve managed to catch before hand, as I've read loads of posts on side effects after the vaccine and non appear to me as bad as you describe! on another note, would you believe that during this pregnancy I've had two blood tests, and 2 days after each blood test I came down with a heavy cold.... I didnt realise I had the cold coming when I had the blood tests done, however I must have as my doctor rang me up concerned about raised white blood cell count.... he was happy after I told him that I came out with a cold! The point being, instead of blood tests being taken I could have easily been going for my swine flu vaccine and then two days later if I came out with a cold I'd blame the injection, when the cold was there anyway!
