Pregnancy & reflexology

I am TTC and a friends dd has asked me to be a study for the reflexology part of her college course which will be over a few months. If I get pg will this cause any problems?

I'm not a qualified reflexologist but I am a qualified massage therapist so if the rules are the same then as long as you are passed the 1st trimester you should be fine.

I don't know for sure so it's best your friends DD asks her tutor.

Yes your friend needs to check with her tutor - courses vary quite a bit.

Reflexology has a reputation for spurring on conception, so it might be a good thing!
Even if you end up not being a case study she will still need to practise lots, so she could practise on you during the first half of your cycle. Who knows, she might hurry things up for you

I'd be a bit careful. I have a friend who's a huge foot-reflex fan (she goes once a fortnight) and she stopped when she got pg. My yoga teacher said something about certain pressure points being the ones to trigger off labour but I guess this isn't such a big deal earlier on when you first find out you are pregnant.

Nymphadora I am a reflexologist (amongst other things...) and I also received treatments throughout my last pregnancy, including 1st trimester. In fact reflexology can actually aid conception and there are practitioners that specialise in this.

Having said all that there are alterations that would be made to the treatment. It would be much lighter and, particularly in the 1st trimester, would avoid the reproductive/pelvic areas.

It is true that there are points to press to encourage labour. But think about it this way - if reflexology was so powerful that simply pressing a point on the foot could cause a miscarriage there would be no need for a abortions.

You would need to tell your reflexologist as soon as you knew so that she could speak to the tutor about adapting the routine
