early pregnancy - bleeding nightmare!!

I am new to Mumsnet but have been an observer for a few weeks. My DD is 15 months old and I am currently 8+5 weeks.

I am an insulin dependant diabetic so was sent for an early scan at 6 weeks where they detected a heartbeat and all looked well. I was hoping for a stress free pregnancy as with DD it was a nightmare ending in pre eclampsia, induction at 36 weeks, forceps, haemmorage (sp), blood transfusion etc. Looks like this time round the stress is starting earlier!

I started bleeding at the weekend, mainly brown spotting (sorry!) and by Mon am it had got heavier and was red. I telephoned my ante natal clinic who referred me to the Early pregnancy unit and they scanned me on Mon pm. Baby was well with a strong heartbeat and there was no sign of any bleed and no obvious cause.

The bleeding stopped but has restarted today - it is heavier, bright red with some lumps (again sorry!). The EPU say they won't scan me for another two weeks and it sounds like I could be miscarrying. They tell me to sit and wait!

Should I just be reassured by the heartbeat on Monday and not worry anymore unless it gets severe or should I try and get another scan.

Any thoughts/comments appreciated.

Hi bojangles, glad to hear the bleeding has stopped, hope that it means everything is ok. No need to aploygise for the gory bit, I was just worried I was givign TMI. Just try to rest as much as possible, what ever you decide to do. I found mine kept restarting with over-exertion. Take care.

Things aren't looking good. bleeding much worse and have passed two large clots. EPU say they can't scan me until Saturday morning. they shut in 10 minutes anyway. Is there any point in turning up at A+E to see if they can cofrim that I have misccaried/am miscarrying. I don't have any hope left that this pregancy is viable.

Oh, I'm so sorry to ehar that it's all started again. I really don't knwo about A&E. What if you phone NHS direct? They might be able to tell you if it is worth going up there or not.

bossykate · 16/06/2005 16:41

bojangles, i'm sorry but a&e won't be able to scan you, ime, they would only refer you to the epu. but your epu may have an out of hours emergency service - were you given a pager number or any other contact number? it's worth giving them a call.

i hope it is not what you think - good luck.

bossykate · 16/06/2005 16:41

sorry, bj, didn't read your post properly.

where are you? if you are in london i know the epu at st thomas's hosp has an out of hours service and you can access it without referral.

Xena · 16/06/2005 19:37

bojangles · 17/06/2005 16:31

Bojangles, I'm so sorry this has happened to you. I miscarried at the end of last year and it was devastating. Take very good care of yourself; my thoughts are with you.

bojangles

So very sorry to hear your news - I miscarried last year at 10 weeks - I'm now 28 weeks pregnant, I know it gives little help now - but you will have another child. Take it easy on yourself and take your time.

I'll be thinking of you. Love Helenx

golds · 18/06/2005 12:13

Sorry to hear your news bojangles ... so sad and devastating for you.
I miscarried at 12 weeks in November 2002 in similar circumstances and it was terrible.
Sending hugs to you {{{{{{{{{{}}}}}}}}}}
