I had bikini waxes all through first pregnancy and have had a couple this time too - not particularly more painful for me.

On a slightly different note when I was in Oz a few years back I had a waxing which was black wax put on then allowed to set and just peeled off. No pain at all and no ingrowing hairs either. Best waxing I ever had. I've never come across this type of waxing in the UK. Does anyone know about it? What's it called or where to get it?

I did find it definitely more painful after about 20 weeks (blood flow increases to that area and it becomes more sensitive, i think)

At my last wax at about 33 weeks the lovely girls at my salon "double teamed" me, took, ahem, a side each and got it over and done with as fast as possible! I could'nt take the full Brazilian at that stage but they did a good job really fast! and shared their choccie biccies with me afterwards. I miss them so much now i've moved!

kitty that sounds fabulous! I think we are way behind the Aussies on waxing technology in the UK though. I've never heard of that method!

notjustapuppymum · 24/10/2009 13:51

kitty that method is called hot waxing and it is available in the UK, though not many salons do it.

You could try having a ring round and ask if they do hot waxing. It is commonly just used for small areas like bikini, underarm etc.

Notjust - thanks so much, I have found a salon about 15mins drive away that does hot waxing and their website write up sounds exactly right! They also do Guinot facials which I love but seem to have dropped off the face of the earth in the town I live in. Brilliant result!

Ah brilliant! Enjoy your hot bikini wax!!

I'm from Aus and haven't had a bikini wax in the UK yet but planning to get one soon. What do they use instead of hot wax over here??? (it sounds painful whatever it is?!!!) Sorry if this is a stupid question but is it cold?

HKmama · 25/10/2009 13:39

I went for a wax just before having ds earlier this year. I had heard that at the hospital where I was giving birth they shaved it all off if you had a c-section and wanted to avoid that! Anyway the lady doing the waxing got a bit carried away and took it all off anyway before I could stop her. And to make matters worse I had a terrible reaction to the waxing and was swollen and blistered for days afterwards!!! Be careful...

notjustapuppymum · 25/10/2009 14:20

Walnut warm wax is what is most commonly used over here. It's no different in its application, but it's removed using fabric strips rather than hot wax which sets and is then peeled off.

I was scared about my usual Brazilian but DRs, midwife and the hospital staff and the scan said it was fine! I waited til 10 weeks and it was Smile
Also I was worried it would hurt more than usual plus you can't take ibuprofen before when pregnant. It was the same pain as usual not unbearable but not fun!

Incidentally a therapist at my salon just went on Mat leave and she had them religiously from start to finish!

I'm now 17+4 and keeping it up Blush soon I'm sure I won't be able to reach it to do it myself anyway!

mrsmugoo · 19/01/2016 21:49

I have a Hollywood every month and have done so throughout my two pregnancies.

I have Brazilians normally and have continued throughout both pregnancies but can imagine some salons might not do a pregnant waxing virgin due to increased sensitivity.

I have found they hurt more, my skin has bruised and even bled a little too. I am swollen and more sensitive down there when pregnant so not surprising but I haven't been able to see my vajayjay for months so it's the only viable option for someone with a smooth preference.

Hey, I'm a beauty therapist and we have ladies in at all stages for waxing, if your not a regular waxer id recommend a standard bikini wax to start you off. Then you can move on to a Brazilian. Also choose a salon that uses hot wax rather than strip wax as its a kinder wax and less painful! Xx
