Braxton Hicks at 18 weeks?

LEMONADEGIRL · 10/10/2009 11:58

Hi,

I am 18+1 and have been having what I think are Braxton Hicks for about a week. Is that possible to notice them so early as didn't feel them until a lot later last time.

I seem to have tightenings after going for a wee as well low down.

Can anyone reassure me is this normal.

Thanks

The midwife said you don't normally get braxton hicks till about 30 weeks pg, i would say i started getting them around 28 weeks as they say you get them slightly earlier for 2nd baby etc
If you are worried speak to your mw

i didnt have any BH in my first pg but in my second pg, i had them most of the pg, esp around the 16 weeks mark as had it for a month and then it went till the last month of pg. I was fine but to put ya mind at rest. call your midwife

Hi, in my first pg I had them from about 17/18 weeks onwards. I didnt realise you could get them so eraly, so called my midwife and she reassured me that this was what they were. I had them all the way through my pg, none so far in this one at 20 wks.

I would mention it of you are worried. Have you got long till you next see the MW?

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies.

I am due at the hospital for my second scan on Friday but will not see my midwife until 26 weeks.

Think I will ring her on Monday just to check as they happen several times a day

Hi Girls,

Do you realise that most women think they "didn't have them" in their first pg? My MW said it's normal to get them all the time (and that early) but they may often go unnoticed so some women dont know they have them. There is also no correlation between BH and early labour (if there is no bleeding). I never recognised the contractions as BH - I always thought it was the baby wedging itself in my lower abdomen and squeezing my bladder and did not realise that they are BH until yesterday, when I had about 30 of them! I am 27 wks now and I guess I noticed them more clearly as I knew what I was looking out for.

I also noticed that yesterday I had had a lot of pelvic pain (I have it all the time but yesterday was worse than usual) so maybe there is a correlation between being stressed out by something and getting more BH. Some people say that dehydration can set the BH off, too.

Hope that re-assures you a bit,

Alina
