Hi

i hope you don't mind me posting here, its my first time on this board. DH and I arelooking to start TTC in about a year (for various different reasons). My concern is that I am 27 years old and Ive been on the pill for 13 years (went on it when I 14 because of bad periods and never came off it).

I went for an ultrasound scan yesterday (due to repeat kidney infections) and the nurse doing the US scan made a comment about my ovaroes being 'shrunken' from being on the pill.

it got me thinking about how long it might take for my body to return to 'normal' after being on the Pill after 14 years? And whether nmy body will even know what 'normal' is after being on it so long!

Would really appreciate any advice/experiences about coming off the Pill after a long time and TTC.

Thanks

I was on Microgynon for around 7 years. Got pregnant 7 months after coming off it at 37.

I was on Mycrogynon for 10 years, came off it at the end of 2008. Periods came back exactly 28 days later. Got pregnant the next month, but sadly had mc at 12 weeks. Am now 15 weeks pregnant again...

Got pregnant 2 weeks after coming off Microgynon. Twice. Start the folic acid before you stop taking the pill! I had been on the pill for most of the last 12/13 years. I thought it would take ages to get pregnant so was very surprised, both times[daft, should have learned the first time]

Hi, I was on mycrogynon for 8 years and came off it at 25. I had no period for 6 months but got pg straight away after it returned. I did find coming off it quite difficult as it made me feel like I was pg and so havent gone back on it since having dd. 7 weeks pg with dc#2 now

Not sure what you heard about the implant, but i had one fitted when i first got together with my DH... we thought we'd just go for it after removal, assuming that it might take a little while (we're both in our mid 30s). Got pregnant within 2 months of having it removed (while in the process of a highly stressful house sale/move!), hadn't had a period of any description and found it totally impossible to date my pregnancy until my first scan!

I have heard you can be at your most fertile when first coming off the pill.

Good luck.

Hi notamumyetbutoneday good luck with the TTC when you start!

Apparently being on the pill depletes your supply of zinc so it's a good idea to start taking a pregnancy supplement including vitamins and minerals as well as folic acid for a couple of months before you start trying.

I was on the pill for 13 years and my periods didn't come back when I came off of it - if yours don't return within 3 months of finishing the pill insist your GP runs a thyroid function test with a thyroid antibodies tests and compares the levels. Ask for a copy of your test results. Your TSH should be between 0.4 - 2.0.

It turns out my thyroid was underactive and that's why my periods had stopped - the Pill had bascially kept my cycle going artificially hence it not being picked up till months after I'd stopped taking it! It was another mumnsetter who told me to get my thyroid checked - my GP hadn't done this as I was not overweight - he was shocked by the results and told me "but you don't LOOK like a thyroid patient!" Started levothyroxine tablets and it took a few months to get my cycle back to normal but as I type this, I have a 26 week bump

Thank you everyone, all your replies were so helpful. All the talk of bumps and babies has made me want to start TTC now!

Blondieminx and moaningminnie that is a really good tip about the folic acid and the zinc and also about the thyroid test as well if my periods dont come back naturally- ive saved this so I can consult it in a years time if necessary.

Thanks again all and good luck to you and your bumps.

I was on microgynon for 5years. My last "pill period" was 10th August and got a positive pregnancy test on 6th September! Am now 8+3weeks pregnant with number 1

TakeLovingChances · 09/10/2009 13:55

I went on the pill when I was 16 years old, tried a few different ones, and was on Cilest for about 6 months at one stage.

I came off the pill aged 24, in March 2009, and got pregnant in June 2009, am now 19 weeks pregnant :-)

Hi notamumyetbutoneday!

I came off Yasmin (before that was on Cilest) in January and became pregnant in February. I had been taking the pill since age 17 and am now 30.
