Milk?

I'vebeen talking to a friend (who doesn't know I'm pregnant). She's a few weeks earlier than me and lives in a different county. Anyway, at her first midwife appt she was told to have semi-skimmed or full fat milk instead of skimmed. I'm slightly worried as have never heard this advice and still have skimmed milk. What has everyone else been told?

Skimmed milk actually contains more calcium. FACT.
You can get fats from elsewhere. Stick with what you like.

never been told what sort of milk to drink. In fact I hate milk so only take a dribble on my cereal and none in tea etc.
Sounds a bit daft to me

Thank you. Will stick to non mouth coating skimmed!

I was sent to a dietician when I was pregnant as I lost a lot of weight due to morning sickness and ended up with a BMI of 13.5. I was told to have semi-skimmed or full fat milk as they contain more fat-soluble vitamins than skimmed milk. Nothing to do with the fat content.

Skimmed milk = yak. It's just white water...
Green top all the way for me - can't get enough of the stuff.

ladyem your case sounds extreme I'm sure in a normal pregnancy then skimmed milk is just fine.
stressheaderic it is like white water but that's why I like it!

You're right Smac, my case was extreme, but just wanted share what the dietician said about the benefits in semi-skimmed and full-fat milk, as it isn't about the fat content but the vitamins in it. That might be why it is encouraged in other countries. I hate milk, too (from being forced to drink it warm when I was at infants school - bleugh!)and always had skimmed milk before, but had to force down hot chocolate every evening made with semi-skimmed (just couldn't do full fat!!) uuugghhh!!
