With my first pregnancy, I had a bit of nausea - which went off around 16 weeks. With this second one (7+4 weeks) I feel poleaxed.

What on earth is the point of morning sickness?!? Does it have any benefit at all in pregnancy? Do you get the feeling that if men had to suffer it they would have come up with something useful by now? All it is doing is making me feel desperate and fed up, and my 2 year old is now addicted to CBeebies.

I'm not throwing up, which doesn't make it sound too bad. But I think if I was actually being sick that might make me feel better, but it is a constant feeling of incredible crapness (sorry for exaggeration but feeling so fed up) with permanent sick feelings, tiredness and all I want to do is to lie on the sofa and groan. It starts at 4am, and goes on all day until I manage to get to sleep. Do you think I should make myself sick? would that help?

I don't fancy any food, but then if I don't eat anything I feel much worse.I have to force myself to drink enough fluids cos everything has a horrible taste. Mid mornings are the worse. Does anyone get that feeling of knowing that your body is hungry but feeling oh so sick as well?

My DH is a farmer and is harvesting, so I don't see him at the moment at all as he is sitting on his blessed tractor...

sorry for the moaning and groaning, and I know there are many many women who have it much worse than me. It really helps reading your other MS posts - esp about the poor women who have hyperemesis. I don't have anything like that, but my god it's still crappy!!

karney you should go back to the doctor and try a different medication. Really hope your doc is sympathetic too so you can talk to him / her about how you're feeling. Hope you have a better day soon. Try not to worry about your DS. I have given up feeling guilty about my DDs as actually they seem fine and completely unaffected by my sickness. My eldest has started school this month which has been a big adjustment for all of us obviously and really hard with me being out of action but actually we have got through it and the DDs are not traumatised as a result.
kathy your HoD is completely out of order and on very dodgy ground in employment law / discrimination terms I would have thought. Hope you have a lovely mat leave and don't get any further hassle from work. Last thing you need.

tinylion · 28/09/2009 12:59

does anyone actually dream about feeling sick as well?

My dreams involve me thinking I'm drunk or on a boat or something, as the nausea musn't stop when I'm asleep. Jeez.

Thank you for all your replies. Have the day off today so spent morning on sofa eating noodles and this afternoon shuffling round the house trying to do a bit of cleaning (the loos desperately need it!!! eurghhhh)

Keep going ladies! As my Dad keeps repeating to me down the phone "that which doesn't kill you, makes you stronger"

Thanks Dad...I think...

"Bexybear" - laughed out loud at your post. That's how I feel - little old man with huge burping problem.

That website is brilliant. there is a print out thing to show you how long you might have left to suffer MS and it sort of gives you hope if you see what I mean. THank you!!

I know exactly how you feel! I'm 22 weeks with no2 and have been totally floored by sickness this time round. I had the easiest pregnancy in the world with DD and thought that this time would be the same - cue hollow laugh! I spent the first 12 weeks so, so tired and sick that I could hardly leave the house (had 7 weeks off sick) and I am still shattered although the sickness eased by about week 16. I found the only thing that helped was carbs (mainly mashed potato and crisps!) and ice cold water. Normal cold water from the tap doesn't do the trick for me, it has to be really, really cold. I am still having to sleep in the afternoons, if I don't I feel awful in the evenings and as a result I am working reduced hours.

There was a time when I thought it would never end, but it does go eventually. I hope you feel better soon.

sheeplikessleep · 28/09/2009 13:34

Just to offer some words of reassurance. I'm 14 weeks and over the last week or so, the all day nausea has just gone. Weeks 5-12 were the worst, where every day you're thinking of bed before you've even got out of it in the morning. And going to sleep at night is nice just for the temporary relief of sickness.

Hope everyone feels better soon - it really does go and you'll feel more normal again. Just do as little as you can - all day long CBeebies and easy food won't harm the kids for a few weeks! Take care

CakeForBreakfast · 28/09/2009 14:09

You poor things.

I am 34weeks with pg2, I had it horrendously too from about 5 weeks, by week 7 I was seriously panicking about how I was going to cope, especially with a toddler.

Homeopathy actually helped, took me from vomming 4 times a day and struggling, to puking once a day and coping! I'd give it a bash as theres nothing to lose.

Mine lasted till about 16weeks. Don;t worry about cbeebies, they will NOT be harmed by too much of it.

If complaining makes you feel better, complain away, my sympathies are with you

Kathyis6incheshigh · 28/09/2009 19:28

actually come to think of it, all-day CBeebies is probably very good for them. They'll end up fully aware of diversity issues and able to do yoga.

Bexybear · 28/09/2009 19:38

not to mention that important life skill - being able to create a replica beans on toast out of a sponge, rolled up tissue and orange paint

Kathyis6incheshigh · 28/09/2009 20:35

LMAO Bexy - I've seen that one so many times!

karney · 29/09/2009 10:36

Thanks for your support. Had a bad day yesterday was just about sick all day. Thank god it was a bank holiday here in Glasgow and my Dp was off so he could look after Ds. I,ve been trying to get through to my doctor all morning but the line is busy but will just keep trying until i get another appointment. I,m clinging on to the hope that this will ease off soon (i,m 10 wks pg). I was sick when pg with Ds but nothing like this and it did get gradually better after the 12 week mark.

TopSop · 29/09/2009 10:55

You have my sympathy. I'm 9.5 weeks now, I'm feeling totally nauseous the whole time and have been since about six weeks - haven't thrown up at all yet but keep thinking I might feel a bit better if I do. I had virtually none of this when pg with my DS so this is a massive shock. I haven't found my food that stops me feeling sick yet either - it gets worse throughout the day, so I actually feel worst of all at dinner time. Can't eat anything more complicated than muesli, a cheese sandwich, pasta with tomatoes, or maybe plain ham pizza - anything spicy or too strongly flavoured just gives me horrendous burps and horrible indigestion. Totally gone off everything! everything tastes wrong, even water, and brushing my teeth is just awful. DS keeps asking "are you feeling better yet mummy?" - he doesn't yet know that I'm pg, but he knows that something is up! bless him.

I'm just holding out for 12 weeks, hoping the worst will have passed by then. I'm also trying to look on the positive side, as before DS I had a mmc at 10+2, so once I get past that date (Sunday this week) I will start to relax a bit.... at least feeling crap lets me know that nothing's gone wrong yet.

Hugs

I'm so glad I found this thread. I am almost 10 weeks now and, like a lot of you, felt OK-ish with my first pregnancy but am now suffering like hell with the second.

I have been sick at work today (and work in a very small office where everyone can hear!) and, like someone said, this gave me relief from the all day and all night nausea for about 10 mins.

Glad to hear that a diet of Cbeebies won't harm my 2.5 year old in the long run!

thatwasmyfavouritedress · 29/09/2009 20:46

tinylion, try a drug called avomine. i have had pretty identical nausea to you in my first 3 pregnancies and went through stemetil, cyclazine and maxalon, none of which helped much. then my fantastic, very experienced woman GP gave me avomine and I woke up the next day feeling that i could eat more than white bread and full fat coke, and able to have a conversation. still bedbound, but a universe better.
am now, btw, 6+1 pg with DC4 and not too bad. was so freaked out not to be poleaxed by nausea by 5.5 weeks that got an early scan. all is well and saw a heartbeat. jus goes to show ever pg is different. but please try the avomine. it'sa bit old fashioned so younger GPs don't tend to prescribe it. you cn buy it over the couter too.

Cooch · 30/09/2009 14:44

Really sympathise with you all, it really is miserable. I am 13 weeks now and have gone from being sick 4/5 times a day to just feeling it now. In response to those of you feeling it and wondering if actually being sick would help, in my experience it doesn't! Maybe for 5 minutes after being sick I feel a bit better (probably because have to eat straight afterwards!) but it soon returns and to be honest my cruel mind reminds of that sickness episode on and off and how traumatising it was making me feel worse! Leaves horrible taste no matter how many times clean teeth, go off the food I was sick with forever and think pulled a tummy muscle once! Not pleasant! Have eaten just junk food really since 5 weeks when the sickness started, I was the same with previous 2 pg's and they are fine so I am not too worried, just got to have whatever you fancy to get through the day.

Must eat something at least every 2 hours otherwise feel worse, don't actually feel hungry anymore, the feeling is like about to puke then know I need to eat! Nobody would understand any of this unless experienced it themselves, so reassuring to read others in similar situation.

Looking forward to 16/17 weeks which is when it all stopped for me with previous 2 pg's. You would think body would get used to being pregnant each time but guess it doesn't work like that!

mrswill · 30/09/2009 20:48

Sorry you feel like this, its horrific.

The only thing that made me feel better, and was given to me by an very old experienced midwife while i was in the hospital for hyperemesis was the full sugar full fat coke, freezing cold. If you start to feel worse, go the doctors, as this can turn into a cycle easily. best of luck, it wont be long before you feel better
