Very myopic and scared labour will worsen eye situation

I am really near sighted (short sighted? Brain is a bowl of lukewarm tapioca) and had a hole in retina a month ago that was frozen shut. Also had massive increase in horrible floaters in both eyes recently which has led to major depression as cannot ever see clear sky again.

Retina specialist says labor will not worsen situation, but had a shifty look in his own eyes and have heard of people saying that weight-lifting/coughing/other activites have brought on massive floaters, so am scared. Cannot take anymore of them.

What do you other blindish ladies think?

Same for me. I'm 37+5 and had a hole in my reina a couple of years ago. Also spoke to my optician who said that pushing shouldn't be a problem and shouldn't reopen the hole. I don't think its worth worrying about, I'm sure there are lots of people out there with bad eyesight who are also at risk of developing holes - but they just don't know it! At least you know, so if you suddenly get more floaters you can tell someone quick!

Ideally you want to be able to push as your own body tells you, not the hold your breath and push for 10 seconds or till your face goes bright red type of pushing. You also dont really want to be pushing to too long by which i mean if delivery is not immenent after a reasonable amount of time the docs might have a slightly lower threshold for intervening in some way. But this is really quite common and if optician is happy then you shouldnt be too worried, Goodluck.

I've had holes in my retina (caused by myopia) lasered and I've pushed out three babies with no ill-effects. I think you'll be fine. Is is written in your maternity notes anywhere?

No, but I'LL tell my doctor.

Did anybody get floaters from labour?

Thanks so much! I am -12 something too, and afaid the vitreous will detach and float my eyes with, well, floaters. Hate those things and would rather have C section than add to the load. But that sounds like I can go with the flow, which is marvelous.
